Yeah, but that specifically mentions version 2018. Plus, they seem to be blaming Microsoft for the problem. While I've had my share of criticisms of MS over the years, I can't help but be skeptical about this one.

I'm using x9 and it started the "slow start" the day after MS pushed Windows 10 Fall Creators addition to my system. It was fine before that. So, it stands to reason that was where the issues began -- for me at least. I've also read where others are having issues with other Corel products (not just Paintshop). If that is the case, I hope that wherever problems Corel has uncovered will prompt a fix across the board.

Well, I would say don't rule out the possibility of coincidence...after all, my OS is Windows 7. If it's happening across multiple Windows versions, I have to lean towards it being a Corel problem. But whatever it turns out to be, I look forward to a fix.

jimbeaux wrote:By the way... I just received another Windows Defender warning 'Win32/Lodi" about a Corel program. So I guess that's at least part of the recent issues with Corel products...

Misleading:Win32/Lodi
Alert level: High

Receommended action: Remove threat now.
Category: Potentially Unwanted Software
Details: This program displays deceptive product messages.
Affected items: Corel PaintShop Pro X9 (64-bit)\AIKRC.dll
The detail I bolded in your quoted message above caught my eye. This is a legit Corel file, but perhaps one of its purposes is to push some of those Corel adverts that pop up sometimes when closing the program and so Defender is seeing that as Potentially Unwanted Software. Corel's adverts might be unwanted and can be annoying but they can't really be called deceptive. :-) And there's certainly no reason for it to be considered a threat requiring a High Alert level.

Not that it's probably relevant, but apparently this .dll was originally distributed with Windows 7 and was originally a component of Ulead Photoimpact. Ulead is now owned by Corel.

8)

If you think it's a false positive you can upload the file to MS (tick "No — this file has been incorrectly detected")
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/filesubmission
(don't ask me how you can do this if it is protected/in quarantine ;-) - switch the defender on-access-scanner off)

After a few hours the new definition files will be delivered...
