Hello
I have just noticed when watching a video (on a UHD LED TV) I created of a waterfall which looks like there is a strobe effect as the water droplets appear to freeze for a split second as they are falling.
My input video is AVCHD (.mts) which was taken with my video camera set at 1080/50p and my output video is MPEG 4 AVC (1920 X 1080).
I prefer to output to USB memory stick.
My TV supports .M2TS format as well as a lot of others but my blueray player (which I prefer to use with usb memory as the socket is at the front) only supports the following-
.avi
.mkv
.wmv
.mp4
.mpg .mpeg
I want to retain highest resolution ie 1920X1080
Thanks

Re: How to prevent strobe effects on fast moving objects
Hi Jarnie
And welcome to the forums
If your original files are MTS rendering the project to same as first clip will use the original properties, creating a m2t video file that is Bluray compliant and should play on your TV and Bluray player.
If you have problems playing MTS or m2t try renaming the file to use MPG extension.
So why are you converting the NTS to Mpeg4?
Can you provide properties of your original MTS and the output Mpeg4 file
Right click each clip and choose properties, what are they?
You can create an image of the panel to attach to your post.
As your profile --- are you using X6 or have you upgraded to a later version.
X6 is a bit limited in editing HD
The highest quality you will get is to retain the original properties 1920 x 1080 x 50P along with the same data rate? Kbps

Re: How to prevent strobe effects on fast moving objects
Just to add a minor point about giving us the Properties of the video, please right click a clip *in the VS timeline or library window*. That gives us the Properties we are after. Just right clicking within Windows doesn't provide all the properties we need.
It will be interesting to see those properties. The sort of strobe effect you are getting is usually associated with interlaced ("i") video rather than progressive ("p"). But you say your video is 50p not 50i...
Like Trevor, though, I suspect something is happening when you convert your video to mp4 when, as Trevor suggested, you could just rename the extensions of the clips to mpg.

Re: How to prevent strobe effects on fast moving objects
A little more info if you are using X6, I just ran the program to test.
Converting to Mpeg4 does not support 50p, the best you can get is 50i, aka 25fps.
That will remove 50% of your video frames, effectively 50% reduction in quality.

Firstly thanks for your replies
Answering both your questions,
File (Windows) properties -
AVCHD Video (.MTS)
Frame width 1920
Frame height 1080
Data rate 24621 kbps
Total bit rate 24877 kbs
Frame Rate 50 frames/second
Properties from VS -
File Format PAL HDMV
Video type H.264 Video
Attributes 24 bits 1920 x 1080 16:9
Frame rate 50.000 frames/sec
Data rate Variable bit rate (max 25000 kbps)
My video camera is a Panasonic HC-X920M set to 1080/50p.
I hope this answers all your questions. I didn't include audio properties as I didn't think they affected the video.
Regards
John

Re: How to prevent strobe effects on fast moving objects
Thanks for your replies,
I'm not sure but I thought that I replied earlier but as it doesn't appear I will try again.

Not sure if you need the audio properties but I thought not.
My camera (Panasonic HC-X920M) is set to (record) 1080/50p
I chose to render to MPEG as I wasn't sure if any others I could chose from would work with my Bluray player.
BTW my project and rendered video was done with VS Pro X6 but since then I have upgraded to VS Pro X10.
Thanks
John

Hi John aka Jparnold
Now I recognise you, Happy New Year John
As you could not login to your Jparnold account you should have contacted us, we can provide new login details. W can sort that later.
Being a new user as jarnie123 requires your first two posts to be approved by admin, sorry for the delay there. I’ll leave both replies active as both have useful info.
Ok
Using X10 --- With your project open go to share – top left for Same as Project Settings
That will render the files to your (VS) Properties
That should create a video file using bets quality.
Try playing that file on your TV / Bluray player
