I tried search on this issue but got way too many hits and, as far as I got before throwing in the towel, all were false positive hits.
Using Video Studio X10. My projects are a mix of photos and video clips. I sometime put titles or comments over a photo or I insert a solid color graphic to use as a background for the text. When I insert the title text, there is a border outline/box which I assumed was to be used to keep the text on the screen. My experience is that that does not always work and after rendering to a file, I find some titles off the screen/cut off.
I also sometimes add titles directly to my photos or graphic image files, for example a map image with some annotations. These also seem to occasionally get cropped.
Is there a good way to know how much of the image is going to be shown?
Thanks...RDK

Hi
The outline /box is indicating the safe area of the video frame.
When viewing video on our TV there is an amount of over-scan where some of the video is lost around the perimeter, the outline as I said shows the safe area, any details within that area will be displayed.
Generally if we place a text at the bottom outside the outline box you may find you can only see part of the text.
This should not affect computer playback, out monitors do not suffer overscan.
So if your problem is apparent on the pc then certainly something is going astray.
When things go out of position is that referring to the text boxes?
Can you give the property details of your video files?
What are the Project Properties
What are you choosing when doing Share
It may be that rendering to different video properties than the Project could cause a shift in Text clips.

Re: Titles cut off and photos cropped
I agree Trevor. My first thought when I read this thread was that somehow the Properties of the final rendered video were different from what might have been used as the Project Properties.
For RDK45: Just to explain a little bit more, if your Project Properties are, for example, set for a standard definition video with a frame size of 720 x 576 (PAL or 720 x 480 (NTSC), then while you are editing, inserting titles etc, the VS preview screen will be showing you what the final video would look like in a 720 x 576/480 frame setup.
But if in reality you then render this project to a high definition video with a frame size of 1920 x 1080, this changes the proportions of where things will be on the final rendered video. In other words it would be very easy for titles to get out of place and in some cases, as you have found, have bits cut off.
So if you start off a project which you know is going to have a specific frame size, you should adjust your Project Properties to match that, and then what you will see on the preview screen should match the final result.
VS can help make this easy. If, say, you have high def mp4 at 1920 x 1080 in a project and want to render the project to that format and size, then right at the moment you start a new project, insert one of your mp4 clips into the timeline. With VS X10, you should then get a message asking if you want the Project Properties to match those of the clip. You say OK to this. (Make sure, though, that in VS Preferences > General, that the box beside "Show message when inserting first clip in timeline" is ticked, though it is by default in X10.)
This also helps when you have finished editing because then you can go to Share and simply tick the little box at the very top of the Share screen beside "Same As Project Settings". In other words, you will now render a new video from your project having precisely the same properties as your original mp4.

Ken....You are correct. I was fooling around with HD settings, related to my other posting, when I rendered the project to an MPEG-2 format. I will do it all again and let you know if there was some other issue....RDK

Re: Titles cut off and photos cropped
Trevor and Ken....Your analysis was mostly correct. When I checked my projects the resolutions were not synchronized. When I fixed that and reformatted all of my titles to be in the DVD 720x480 (or 720x576) box that was fixed. What was not fixed is that VSx10 crops some photos/images which results in titles and annotation which are part of the image being cut off. It seem that it is a function of the dimension of the image, it some are ok and others not. I tried reducing the resolution but kept the relative dimensions without effect.
Maybe I will try a "Pan and Zoom". Do you have a better suggestion?.....RDK

Hi RDK
I assume you have images with text embedded into the image.
If the text is near the edges you may loose a little detail due to overscan, but should display ok within VS.
Not 100% sure what is going on here, can you provide a screen shot.
From VS, select project playback, then Edit – Take Snapshot.
You will have to reduce the size to attach to your post approx. 600px? ( not quite sure what the limit is)
