Sorry if I've missed something obvious, but I've read through the PSP 2018 manual's description on using screenshot and, while it explains how to set it up, it doesn't actually explain how to use it.
Specifically, after starting screenshot, going to the application window of choice, pressing F10 (the specified hotkey), I select an area to copy. So far so good, but, what does one then do to copy the selected area into PSP?

Re: Using screenshot
This doesn't answer your question because I don't use the Screenshot feature of PSP, which I find to be clunky. If interested, I use a free, small and very versatile program called Greenshot. It has a variety of capture methods (screen, crop, whole web page with IE (even the part below the scroll), allows you to configure hotkeys and you can capture from any program or screen. You can set how you want the screenshot to be handled - e.g., send it to a printer, a specific program, etc. I just have it set to save to clipboard and then, in PSP, use Edit>Paste as New Image. When I'm posting a shot of my PSP workspace to illustrate a point I just hit my PrtScr button (which I set as the hotkey for cropping to part of a page which I do most often), outline the relevant part of my PSP workspace which is instantly captured when I release the mouse button, and Paste as New image and it's ready to be posted after a save.
No, I have no relationship with the program but like it so much I recommend it to people asking about screenshot issues. If interested, it's available here:

Re: Using screenshot
TomG can you show us all of your settings?
When I have Method set as Area, and Hot key set to F10 (default for me was right-click so I changed it) and hit Start PSP minimizes and I go tot he program I want. I hit F10 and my cursor changes to cross-hairs. I drag to select the area and a floating toolbar appears under the area with a green "Capture" button to let me confirm I want to capture this area.
When Smart Capture is the method and I hit F10 it greys out the portion of the program that my mouse is hovering over, I click when I have what I want and it auto captures.
Full Screen auto-captures the whole screen on key press
Client Window grabs the whole program window that is active when I hit the key, though in my test it grabbed a bit more on the left, right, and bottom sides as well.
Object seemed to act like a mix between Client Window and Smart Capture. It highlights various objects within the program, and if you select the whole program it extends beyond the bounds of the program a little bit. Smart Capture is a bit better at staying within the boundaries of the application.
Preset uses one of the current presets to auto-highlight and area at the exact print/pixel dimensions specified by the preset. (uses document presets) And just like the Area option shows the selection with a floating toolbar that has a green Capture button on it.
So, Full Screen and Client Window will auto capture upon hitting the activation key.
Preset and Area use a blue box to identify an area to capture and uses a floating toolbar with green capture button.
Smart Capture and Object let you highlight an area within a program and intelligently capture that area only upon clicking with the left mouse button.

Re: Using screenshot
Or, you can use <ALT> + <PRT SCR> then "paste as new image" (like I did for this screen shot).
Make sure when you get the area marked off that you left click with your mouse. Then the dialogue box should come up as in the attached image.
Anyhow, this is what my screen looks like:
:
Just click on the button where the blue triangle is pointing

Still learning, but here are a few of my favorite shots: https://www.500px.com/ccjr221

Re: Using screenshot
LeviFiction and Dijenga, thanks for the replies. I'm a bit embarrassed about this as, while I had seen the toolbar pop up, I had not seen the 'capture' text in the green area of the toolbar, a combination of poor eyesight and the text on the green button being in black in my PSP, making it hard to see (I note in your screen capture, Dijenga, the text is in a much easier to see white).
Oh well, problem solved, thanks again for your help.
