While making a video, I changed my mind before finishing it and wanted to add a different clip in the middle of the timeline. The problem is the clip I want to us is twice as long than the one I want to replace it with. So this newer, longer clip will overlap into the next segment and throw the narration off.
Is there anyway around this? Is there an option where I could put this new clip in and push the rest of the timeline down, so nothing overlaps?

Re: Putting New Clip in Timeline
Hi
First I would save the project again using Save As to create a copy should things not turn out as expected.
We can replace clips on the timeline with other clips, a few ways to do that…….
1 / right the clip and choose Replace Clip, browse the hard dive for the new file.
The clip if video has to be longer than the original.
2 / Drag a clip from the library, press / hold keyboard CTRL key then drop over the clip to be replaced.
3 / You could insert a new clip to the overlay track, effectively covering the clip above, as in overlay

Re: Putting New Clip in Timeline
You also need to look up the VS guide for Ripple Editing. Essentially this is to cover exactly the situation you will find yourself in by inserting a longer clip than the one already there. Ripple Editing, when enabled, pushes all the clips, photos, audio and titles that might be in the overlay tracks to the right to follow the end of the new insert track, and thus preserve the narration and sequence.
Look to the very far left of the main timeline and you will see a tiny icon which looks like a padlock. If you hover your mouse over it it should say Enable/Disable Ripple Editing. Click that to enable it, and do the same to the padlocks in all the overlay tracks you have used below the main timeline, including the Title and Audio tracks.
