Extracting Audio from rendered file
I have rendered a project now with a .m2t file name. The project had a short video file in it and 15 separate .wav files imported from CD tracks. The project in the sub library has properties of 495 MB. After rendering I am told the estimated output size is 7.43GB.I have not attempted to burn the file .Do not understand why this is so big but my question now is-can I get the audio only from this file onto 1 or more DVds ,CDs or USB.If so how ?

Hi Ken
Not sure I understand the size 495Mb, that is quite low for a video file and big if it’s a VSP project file.
Your video using m2t or mts file extension is approx. 8 Gb per hour, I am guessing your project is 50 minutes long????
To burn a disc are you using Bluray or DVD.
If DVD then first convert the m2t file to Mpeg2.
Audio
If you have imported the wav files from disc then they are already on the pc, and will be in your library, with the files saved to your hard drive.
If you wish to extract the sound from the video you can do that by using Share – Audio will create a sound file of the entire project, so you may need to do some cutting, or set the preview range to render only that.
Seems a hard way to go when you have the audio as separate wav files

Re: Extracting Audio from rendered file
Thanks Trevor,
The 495MB figure was obtained by right clicking on the .m2t file in the sub library to get its properties. In the file name field it was smart package\name\.m2t.It listed 3470 secs which gives 57.8 mins. I interpreted 495 MB and length not to be too big for a DVD.
Do I get the feeling that as the project was in AVCHD format I should have rendered it to MPEG2 and not ticked Same as project settings in the first place .? Is this the reason for the estimated output size to be 7.43GB ?
As I edited each audio clip regarding length, fading and volume etc I thought it would be good to have my efforts on a CD ready mixed .
I did try to get a sound file of the project but the start button was not active.
Any way I will convert the file to MPEG2

Re: Extracting Audio from rendered file
Converted file to .mpg,4.38GB, got to output tab, inserted DVD, selected 2 copies, with format DVD Video selected and create to disc only ticked--on hovering over burn button I see “start burning+/or creating DVD folders/disc image” and looking at the file path field it goes to VS Pro disc image files PRJ….iso.
So what is going on here

Re: Extracting Audio from rendered file
Hi Ken
Your workflow
You are working with AVCHD video from your camcorder
After completing the project I would render to the same as AVCHD, this will create a master copy of the project, the 7.46 Gb m2t file.
If I need a DVD I would then render the master video copy to mpeg2, simply start a new project add the video, Share Mpeg2. The length of the video will determine the data rate.
Of course you could miss those steps and render the project directly to Mpeg2.
To burn the DVD
Start a new project – Share disc DVD adding the Mpeg2 here.
Create the menu
On the final page we have the options to Create to Disc, Create DVD Folders or Create Disc Image
Choosing Create Disc Image only will save an iso to the hard drive.
We can play that iso using VLC Media Player to check quality, that being ok we can burn the iso to disc
Tools – Burn from Disc Image. Will also allow to burn more than one disc.
That will save us making coasters as the final disc will be good.
If you require multiple copies of the DVD then I would opt for the ISO route
Again you can skip that step and choose to burn Create to Disc.
Your actual file at 4.38Gb, that is on the limit to burn a DVD, can you check the size of your Mpeg2 again?
You say its 57 minutes?
1 / edit project
2 / render to same as project or same as your AVCHD, creates master copy m2t file approx. 8 Gb for one hour.
Play the video to check quality
3 / Start a new project – add master copy – Share Mpeg2 – creates a DVD copy as Mpeg2 approx 4 Gb.
4 / Start a new project Share – Disc – DVD – opens the burner module
5 / add Mpeg2 video
6 / create menus
7 / final page – Create Disc Image
8 / Play disc image using VLC Media Player to view quality
9 / Tools Burn from Disc Image to burn the Iso to disc.
10 / you can skip 7 and choosing Create to Disc will burn a DVD

Re: Extracting Audio from rendered file
Thanks for all that Trevor. The mpeg2 project file is 57.50 long so it seems I will have to shorten it and render again.Throughout I have followed the mpeg2 disc route but my point is that in the out put tab VS is not allowing me that choice. The output tab only gives the the DVD folder or iso route at the burn stage.See the last lines of my last post.

Hi Ken
If your video is just over size you can render again using a smaller data rate, change the 800kbps to 7500kbps
But first try adding the video to the burner module to view the Green bar
All green ok
Some Yellow, may fit but I would render again
Red showing oversized

Re: Extracting Audio from rendered file
Image 1 Save project to disc- DVD ticked-Disc selected
Image 2 mpg file now fits a DVD
Image 3 Create to disc only ticked---/hovering over burn button says start burning +/or creating DVD Folders/disc image.
looking at the file path field it goes to VS Pro disc image files PRJ….iso.
What do I have to do get a DVD burnt

Hi Ken
From your first image the selection you have made (Create to Disc) will burn a DVD Disc.
There are no other options selected, just the disc.

Re: Extracting Audio from rendered file
In other words, you simply ignore the options and the file path below Create to Disc. They only become relevant if the box beside them is ticked. And if you don't want to be bothered by this in future, then simply click on that double chevron arrow Trevor highlighted in his image, and those two options (folder/iso) won't even appear on screen.
