Saved image files will not re-open

Post by mitch77 »

Hi,

I searched for the answer and saw nothing.
Perhaps I wasn't asking correctly.

PSP (9) will open any image on my computer EXCEPT those I have edited and saved.
And it does not seem to matter what format I save them as.
Is there a setting I have missed or...??

Thanks very much

Do you get an error message ?

Did you try to "refresh" PSP with launching and maintaining Shift key down ?

If you do try a reset as suggested by Jean-Luc (by holding down the Shift key when you click on the PSP desktop icon to launch it), first remember to save any customized workspace you may have created since a reset will take any workspace back to the original.

And is Mitch actually using Jasc PSP 9 or Corel PSP X9. There is a wide difference.

Try loading an image, editing it, saving it s a jpg file and then reloading it. Does it fail to load in your version of PSP?
Install Irfanview (it is free) and see if that saved jpg will load in Irfanview.

Load an image, resize it to about 400 pixels on longest side, save it as a jpg and then if it will not reload, post it as an attachment to your next post so that others can examine and test the image.

OK,
Sorry didn't pay real close attention and didn't realize there were similar products.
I am using Corel PSP Photo XI - sorry I was so imprecise.

It seems some of the issues have rectified (though I have no idea why).
So I just loaded an image
Cropped it
Used the "SAVE COPY AS" function and save as JPG
And what I have won't open

Dragged into open Infanview window with no results
Tried the "Open" command to get it back into PSP and got this answer:
"This file is in use. Enter a new name or close the file that's open in another prog."
This stays after I close Infanview. Also
I checked in task manager to make sure Infanview was not running.
ALSO, the file could not be uploaded to this forum due to it being in use"

So I closed PSP too and then reopened it and then when I tried to load the file it said it was an "unknown type".
But it did upload now and is apparently empty.
These tests are all about the file named "TEST-X2"
I have also uploaded some of the other files that I tried to "save as" various formats yesterday in case they are of use.

Thanks

Thanks for update. OK I only have Jasc PSP8 and Corel PSP X2 -2018

I tested with the 8 and X2 versions.

Loaded an image (dragged it from a Desktop test folder in Windows onto the workspace.
Cropped it and then did a Save Copy As (not sure why you bother using this as Save As does essentially the same thing - allowing you to name and save as a different file.)

Both files were able to be reloaded into each program without any error.

Your installation may be corrupted.

If you have done much customization of your workspace then you might save your workspace.
Then close PSP and do a Shift Restart to reset PSP back to its default. This can often jolt it back to normality and is short of doing an uninstall and reinstall.
Hold the Shift key down while you click the PSP Icon to start it up.

File > Workspace > Save
It should be there as it was present in Jasc PSP 8 and also in X2.
