PSP2018 Tool group won't Delete

Post by arturox »

PSP 2018 full install and updated.

I created a couple of Toolbars, I populated one and fixed it in among the default toolbars.
The second one I decided I didn't want so I unticked it and tried to Delete it... The dialogue asks. "Do you really want to delete the toolbar xxxx" to which I click Yes.

The toolbar is Not deleted, tried this action many times with different settings, even renaming the errant tool bar, but it still will not delete.

Bug,bug,bug,bug....

So please, How do I get this toolbar deleted?

Thanks

I've also just discovered I cannot rename the toolbar.
I rename it and it looks renamed okay, close the Customize dialogue window, then reopen it and the toolbar is back with its old name.

Obviously It was an empty toolbar when I first created it and it seems to have got lost as it never appears when ticked on?

No problems here with 20.0.0.132 (original verion without updates) . Perhaps the updates broke it.

EDIT:
Just updated a laptop to 20.2.0.1 using a fresh download of the update from the Corel site and again no problems in deleting a custom toolbar.

What happens if you rename the toolbar, save the workspace, close PSP and then reopen PSP?

I'd been there done that a number of times, including rebooting the damn computer, no change, but thanks for the thought, appreciated.

I tried everything I could think of, including Resetting, deleting, renaming, etc, etc, no change...
Well that's not quite true, after one, whatever it was I did, I opened up the toolbar config dialogue again to find that Toolbar xxxx had gained a friend, also called Toolbar xxxx.

Of course now neither of them would die, delete etc...

Bit the bullet and totally unistalled 2018 all the way. (Revo, not the bog standard Win uninstall).

Reinstalled, updated to 20.2.0.1 some basic configuring and when opened was as expected, Sans errant toolbars.

So I'm now sorted.

Ax

To add to the fun, I see today, one of my other PSP 2018 installs on another computer has the same affliction.

Well, there was me thinking a new from the ground up install would do the job.

Expletives abound, by the bucket load.
After the reinstall I'd created just two extra tool bars and populated them, Saved the Workspace.
Shut down everything a while back (Family stuff), came back booted machine, then into PSP 2018.

Opened up the configuration dialogue... Shock horror I now have three Toolbars xxxx where have thay come from I wonder.

The two new configured and populated are still there...
But...

I'm lost...

Being just a knowledgeable computer user, I know nothing about coding, scripting etc etc. But I know a big BUG when I see one.

Having done a lot of work today on this problem, it is a problem with PSP and not me.

I excised, removed, deleted all the PSP 2018 Workspace files I'd created during this debacle.
I cleared the PSPCache.

I pulled in an unaffected Workspace from another W10 computer running 2018 (Unaffected because I haven't configured it much yet) and ran 2018 with this Workspace.

Fine and dandy, no problem no spurious toolbars.
Next I carefully configured it in stages, saving an incrementally named Workspace after each stage was done.
No problems...
Now we get to the creation of the two new toolbars.
Created them and populated them, had a look a the config dialogue, no problem, just the two new toolbars "Dtools1" and "Dtools2" as expected. Again saved the Workspace.
Quit PSP 2018.

Ran PSP 2018 loaded the Workspace file... Expletive... The spurious set of addition button bars all with the same name displaying in the Customize-Toolbars dialogue.
Quitting and using the various back stage incremental Workspace files didn't make any difference, still the errant same name toolbars.
Not even the clean Workspace I'd bought in from the other computer.

Tested this lot out multiple times, same end result.

Eventually, after some hours of work, the only solution... (Not really).

Go to "Windows\Users\Myprofile\AppData\Local\Corel PaintShop Pro\2018\Cache" Delete the Cache directory.
Power off the computer.
Reboot the computer.
Run PSP 2018, the Workspace is okay and no spurious Toobars.

Don't get excited... As long as PSP 2018 remains loaded, minimised, maximised... no sign of the errant toolbars, but quit 2018, then rerun it and again the errant toolbars are there in the Customize-Toolbars dialogue.

Through the process again... Delete the Cache directory, Power off the computer, reboot the computer, Run PSP2018, all is well, quit and run 2018 and the toolbars are back.

It is no good just deleting the Cache directory, the machine than has to be rebooted.

Every time!

That's as far as I can take it with my knowledge, I'm hoping someone else can figure out what's really going on and maybe have an answer.

To add to what I last wrote:
The above PSP 2018 is on a Win 10 run computer, and I've now tested it (2018) on a Win 7 Pro computer, the additional toolbar problem is there as well, so it most positively is a PSP 2018 problem.

Tested the previous version I had, PSP X8. It does not appear to have this problem.

A bug is a defect which is replicable ON DEMAND in each same PSP version on different computers, IMHO.
I cannot reproduce your situation on my system : creating a new toolbar, populate it, delete it, close PSP, launch again, deleted toolbar is not visible. I cannot help you.

I also can't replicate your problem. Like Jean-Luc I created a new toolbar in PSP 2018 version 20.2.0.1 which I called creatively enough "Test01". I populated it. And it showed at the bottom of the list of toolbars. I then went back to Customize > Toolbars, highlighted it and deleted it. I closed PSP 2018 and when I reopened it, Test01 had disappeared. I even rebooted the computer and Test01 had still disappeared.

Thanks for your thoughts chaps, but you are missing a bit... Probably my fault for not making it clearer.

One single additional toolbar is not a problem, the trouble starts on two or more...

Would appreciate it if you could give that a go to confirm or not?

Thanks

OK I really tested this on two systems - Main Desktop running 2018 version 20.0.0.132and a Toshiba Laptop running 2018 version 20.2.0.1, and both running windows 10 version 1607.

I Customised 5 new toolbars and named them :
TB001,
TB002
TB003
TB004
MT1 an empty toolbar.
Then renamed TB001 as Toolbar001
01toolbars5.jpg
I then deleted Toolbar001 and MT1
02toolbars3.jpg
Again no problems . I also opened the 64 bit version of 2018 and the toolbars showed there as well just as in the 32 bit version. I could of course purchase another copy of 2018 and install on another laptop as well as desktop with Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 but I doubt if there would be a bug showing there.
Next suggestion???

Well...
Once you folks has done an experiment or two, it became apparent the problem must be at my end, not sure what or why, but I decided to take drastic action on one of my computers. (Not this one).

I uninstalled PSP 2018, then I dug out the PSP 2018 Cleanup tool, ran that, and it did whatever it does.

I rebooted the computer, always a good move in these situations, then reinstalled from scratch, and that included creating a completely new Workspace, rather than re-using an old PSP 2018 one.

Configured it in bits and made incremental Workspace Saves.
I then added the two personal toolbars I need.

Saved that workspace as the default.
Quit and re-ran 2018 a few times, checked the configs, looks promising, still only two additional toolbars.

Quit PSP, Rebooted computer, had a play with PSP 2018 and still only the two additional toolbars.

So it appears it was something at this end... Possibly because on that machine I key activated my old Trial version, then updated it to 20.2.0.1
The new installer was already a 20.2.0.1 version.

I'll continue to play with that PSP 2018 for a day or so, and if it stay fixed, I do the same process on this, my main machine.

Thanks for the input folks, really appreciated, as I'd run out of ideas.

Will report again when I "byte" the bullet and do this machine. :)

Never load a workspace from a previous version ! Technically, it can be done but this old workspace will produce erratic defects in the new PSP or will remove new features.

Silly Billy...
Never from a previous version... Been playing this PSP game far tooooo long. :)

The old Workspace... I wrote previously. "... rather than re-using an old PSP 2018 one."

It was the one I created when I installed the original Trial PSP 2018 and before the Update 1 arrived.
I think maybe something got messed up then with the Workspace.

Anyway, I've now transferred a copy of the good Workspace from the cleaned out and new PSP 2018 install computer to this one...

I'm still trying to make it go wrong on either machine but it won't...
