Unable to call PaintShop Pro cross platform

Post by MikeFromMesa »

I do most of my work on a Mac, but I have Windows running in a Parallels VM with PaintShop Pro Ultimate 2018 running on that VM. My normal process has been to use my Mac workflow tools to do work until I need a pixel editor and then to call PSP from that workflow tool. This works very well for all of the Mac based workflow tools I have (CaptureOne, Dxo Optics Pro/PhotoLab and ACDSee Pro 4), but does not work at all with the Mac version of Corel's AfterShot Pro. When PSP under Parallels (Windows 10) is set as the default external editor and when a call from ASP is made to PSP, nothing happens. I get a display message from ASP telling me that a photo has been sent to the external editor batch, but then nothing happens.

This is true regardless of the state of the Parallels VM. With all of my other workflow tools, if the Parallels Desktop is closed, the call opens it, starts Windows, starts PSP and it loads the image. If Windows is already running, the call starts PSP and it loads the image. If PSP is already running, PSP loads the image. But with ASP nothing makes any difference. The Desktop can be running, or not. Windows can be running, or not. PSP can be running, or not. Under none of those conditions will PSP load an image supposedly sent from ASP on the Mac side.

Clearly this should work, as it does for all of my other Mac photo software. Only ASP is failing.

UPDATE:

I do not know why, but I reset my copy of ASP, went through the external editor functionality again and now it is properly calling PaintShop Pro. I do not understand why it did not before, but it worked successfully today so perhaps this was all due to some kind of glitch on my system.
