From the capture tab the program recognises your capture device.
There is an Options Cogwheel that allows us to set the capture properties.
I do not see any reference to that in the earlier replies.

The type of device being recognised will display options for that device, so what I see may not be the same as you.
Have you set the video properties within the Options, as far as I know will allow to choose Video and Audio.
Explore all options there.
The only option it gives me is to "Insert To Timeline"...everything else is greyed out

Under Video Properties, it does not allow me to change anything:

Uploaded a video of where I tried to capture the VHS Tape. There are two "captures" in the video. As you can hear and see, only the first second of each capture caught the audio, then it goes away.

Hi Trevor, I never mentioned the cog wheel because like Jim, no matter what I set as the capture device the Capture Options are always greyed out, the only option available is Insert to Timeline, do not have the option to change frame rate from 25 even though I use NTSC as standard, I do have the option to change the video properties, where NTSC is shown and I do have the option of changing the Current Profile

So, got them to refund my money for upgrading to VS X10...
uninstalled VS X10 and reverted back to VS X9...
Only to realize and remember why I upgraded to VS X10...
When I try to "Capture" using VS X9 I get the "Cannot Start the Capture Graph" error...

gotta love this software... *sigh*

Hi Jim

You do seem to have had problems for a while capturing via the AVerMedia SD Capture 1 having viewed your earlier posts.

Where are you in this big wide world, your settings are showing NTSC, have you tried using Pal
If the TV system does not match the input source then most of the settings are missing, at least that’s my experience.
It does seem wrong that from your second image the Input Source is blank, I would have expected to see Composite, Svideo, TV etc.

Usually capture cards have their own software allowing capture, I did have a AIW capture card that allowed that, although did work through Video Studio.
So does your AVermedia have its own capture software, if that works you can then import to VS to edit.

If you make sure that AVerMedia SD Caspture 1 works using its own software then I think VS would work as well.

Trevor -- I don't think that AverMedia card comes with its own capture software. The blurb for it on the AverMedia website in face says it "supports a diverse range of well-known third party software."

However, I am wondering if Jim has ever updated the drivers that might have come with it. Updates can be found at https://www.avermedia.com/professional/ ... b#ans_part

Yes, I can capture no problem using the AVermedia Capture and it's software...but was wanting to "adjust" the video color, brightness. contrast, etc while I captured it using VS as opposed to after.

The problem in the past has been that the makers of capture devices and cards kept the proprietary secrets of codecs etc used by the device to themselves, and tweaked the software they provided with the device/card to work properly with it. And though AverMedia claims that its card "supports a diverse range of well-known third party software", that does not necessarily include Video Studio in its entirety.

I understand your desire to adjust things during capture, but our advice in the past with such cards or devices was always to use the software which came with it to capture, then switch over the VS to edit.

I guess my basic message is that you could be beating your head against a brick wall and wasting time trying to get VS to work with the device -- time which you could otherwise be spending transferring the video captured with the card's software to VS and then applying the filters etc available in VS to achieve the video color, brightness and contrast etc you are after...

One last try of updating the AVermedia drivers...then I MIGHT stop beating my head against the wall...lol

Updated drivers...still doesn't work. One thing continues to puzzle me though...If something was not compatible, either in the AVermedia card or the VS Software, why does it work for one second? If it wasn't compatible it seems like it would not even work at all...things that make you go hmmmmm....

Hi Jim
Another advantage of using the AVermedia is the options you get for capture properties, I saw on the support site (manual) that others were Wmv, Mpeg4, Mpeg2
I think using Video Studio only DVD Mpeg2 and maybe Dv-Avi will be available.

I would advise capturing without changing the color, doing that in Video Studio.
Changing the colour during capture will be quite demanding on the pc resources and could result in buffering or dropped frames.
Besides your settings being fixed to the capture files, I would have thought best during editing where you can tweak the settings
