I have to edit a pretty long MPEG4-format video (60 minutes) imported from a DVD into VS Pro X9.
I've never edited a video of this length before and wonder if there are any particular procedures--and tricks--I should
follow to make this edit happen successfully. I suspect editing this video could put a real strain on my system...?
My tech specs are: Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit; GEForce GTX 970 (1 Mgb memory) graphics card; ASRock 970a-/g 3.1 Motherboard; AMD FX 8350 8-core processor.
Thanks for any responses in advance.

Re: Editing A Pretty Long Video
A few things are unclear.
Is that DVD a standard video DVD, ie. does it have a Video_TS folder containing a number of ifo,bup and vob files?
If yes, then it does not have any mpeg4 files but the vob files are normal mpg files and there should be no difficulty importing the video into VS and editing. 60 minutes is not really a "long" video in this case.
If no then you have a data DVD and you should first simply copy the video to your hard drive. Again, VS should have no problem with the editing.
The other question then is, how much editing is required and what do you want to edit out?

Re: Editing A Pretty Long Video
It's a standard video DVD. The footage contains both video recorded during a live TV studio (public access) and MPEG-4 video clips.
I need to edit just a few of the studio-recorded clips (2 minutes) and part of the MPEG-4 clip (2 minutes), then replace about five minutes of an early MPEG-4 clip.
Then I have to burn the whole video as MPEG-4 for streaming on both the web and YouTube.
I wonder if VS Pro X9 will identify the clips during Import....?

A standard video DVD does not contain any mpeg4 video - it is all mpg video. Do you have a Video_TS folder on that DVD?
Can you post a list of the files on that DVD?

Re: Editing A Pretty Long Video
I don't have the DVD in hand yet.
When I do get it--very shortly--I'll post the list of files on it, Thanks.

60 min isn't long by any standard, and your system is "stronger" than mine . Even years ago on simple XP system I edited over an hour projects. It's not the duration that mater it's all the FX's and transitions you impose on the poor hour.
