Script to open Perfectly Clear 3.5

Post by JCBrown »

Hi,

Using PSP2018, trying run a script that worked with X9 to simply duplicate the layer, change the name and open Perfectly Clear 3.5, upon returning to PSP, duplicate the later. The script that I made with X9 worked fine with X9. I created a new script with 2018, to no avail. There are two changes: 1. PSP X9 to PSP2018; 2. Perfectly Clear update from what I am not sure, to 3.5 (full version). The script hangs on trying to open Perfectly Clear and I have to use the Task Manager to shut down PSP2018. I went back to PSP X9 and tried running the script and it did not open PC, but at least it didn't hang PSP.

Could someone who has the full version of Perfectly Clear, latest update, try creating and running a script that opens PC and let me know the outcome. If it works, then is there some trick that I don't know about?

Opening and closing PC works fine without the script.

Thanks,
John CB

Are you using a modified version of the JSJ script or did you create your own from scratch? Also, the Perfectly Clear 3.5 plugin should work with 64bit PSP2018, so I'm not sure why you want to use a script to open the standalone version of PC. Also, I think (but stand to be corrected) that Perfectly Clear 3.5 has a different Save routine than the earlier versions, so perhaps your update to 3.5 is what is causing the issue. If you have the previous version standalone you could confirm if it actually is the case that the Save routines are slightly different.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for taking a look.

I am a novice at scripting, so I made my own by simply recording the steps. I had made the script with X9 and PC 3. something and then upgraded to PSP2018 and PC 3.5... Running the script no longer opened PC 3 so I redid the script. Running the script still would not open PC 3 and cause PSP2018 to hang.

I am using the PC 3 plugin, not the standalone (which is new), in fact, I have yet to try the standalone.

As far as I know, my current version is the first one with a standalone. I have no way that I know of to check if the Save routine has changed. The script hangs upon trying to open PC, not upon exit, as I never get PC to open using the script. See below for my attempt using a previous version of PC 3.

I tried on my laptop. With PSP2018, a new script would not open PC 3.2 plugin (I have not yet updated). I opened PSPX9 and the script worked properly and PC 3.2 opened.

I tried a new script using PC essentials, but it takes me to an activation screen, and I quit it. Running the script in 2018 at least opened the PC essentials activation screen.

I will keep trying, unless you can confirm that I am doing something wrong or that PSP2018 has a problem opening PC.

Thanks,
John CB

If you are using the plugin then is there any reason you can't open it by going to Effects>Athentech and selecting Perfectly Clear 3 from the flyout?

Hi Joe,

No problem doing it manually, but since I have many photos to do, I was saving a few steps by using the script.

Since I was also doing a bunch of photos of pictures and other objects that required perspective adjustment, I had another script that would duplicate the layer, give it a name, run PC, create another layer go to the perspective toolbar. So I can't do that either.

The main point is, what worked in X9 seems to be broken in 2018.

Thanks,
John CB

Well, perhaps if we could see your original PC script that works with X9 somebody could try to determine what might be the issue and if it can be corrected. You can post it as a zip file if you like. Unfortunately I'm just doing quick visits to the forum at the moment because real life - and Christmas - have taken most of my time so I won't likely be able to do much with it at the moment. But perhaps others - LeviFiction perhaps? - might want to give it a shot.

Hi Joe,

First is the one that works with X9

Next is the same one created with 2018

Are you able to see these?

I don't wish to sign in anywhere to have to download the scripts. As I suggested, you can use winzip or 7-zip (free) to zip them and then attach the zip file to a post here.

JoeB - there is a "no, take me to download" link at the bottom of the login dialog so you can download the scripts directly. Login is not required.

I placed both scripts into DiffChecker.com. The only difference comes in the plugin data "default properties" parameter. It's a bit longer in 2018. But, that being said, that should have next to nothing to do with how the script executes.

Thanks for that info! I guess I should learn to scan the whole page of a website before drawing conclusions. However, now having revisited the page it has a different layout than it had last night, and the download links were not as prominent or obvious or even in the same position that they are now. I believe I clicked some download link and it immediately popped up a window asking for either a password or to sign in with Twitter or Facebook.

@JCBrown,

The script I have attached here should run on 64bit PSP2018. It's your 2018 script but I just removed the Perfectly Clear default properties from the script. PSP 2018 will run earlier versions of Perfectly Clear with those default properties present (but they don't change the behaviour of the plugin) but either PSP or Perfectly Clear chokes on those properties being present when calling Perfectly Clear 3.5.5. I suspect it's Perfectly Clear that has that behaviour. And not that I can see where this might affect the working of the script, Perfectly Clear 3.5.5 does have a slightly different Save routine than previous versions. :-)

Generally speaking, when running a plugin from a script you don't need the default properties of the plugin present in the script because they don't seem to change the default behaviour of the plugin. That is, if the plugin's default behaviour is to open with its own default settings, that's how it's going to open regardless of the default properties in the script. If it's behaviour is to open with the last used preset then that's also how it's going to open.

EDIT: On January 1, 2018 I posted here (below) with the same script but changed it so that it would run regardless of the execution mode for scripts that you have set in the toolbar (i.e., Interactively so that the plugin will open regardless). I have now added the link to the script here also:

@JoeB,

Sorry for the late reply, Christmas festivities, etc.

Thank you for your help and the explanations. I will start reading up on scripting and the scripting language. So far, my only scripts were those made by recording, with no modification to the coding.

I downloaded and tried your modified script. Perfectly Clear still did not open, but at least the script did not crash the program. I can only conclude that Corel broke something in this version because recording a script in X9 of exactly the same thing, works. Not a big deal. I'll just open PC manually. I am travelling and using my laptop, and I removed X9, so I'll continue with 2018. However, someone should bring this to the attention of Corel. I presume that one cannot raise a ticket with them after 30 days.

Thanks again,
John CB

This may or may not be your issue but I've run into issues with a similar script if my execution mode gets toggled to silent. You want to make sure it's in interactive mode.

Kathy had a good point. When you ran the script did it at least create the new layer but just not open Perfectly Clear so you ended up with just a copy of the original layer? If so, she hit the nail on the head.

I've attached the same script below but this one will run interactively regardless of the execution mode selected in the toolbar so it will open the plugin even if you have execution mode set to Silent. It works just fine for me with PSP 2018 64bit. Of course it won't work with 32bit PSP because it's a 64bit plugin.

All that said, If you still can't get it to work but have the standalone version of PC 3.5.5 I also have modified the JSJ script so that it will run the standalone as a plugin in PSP and return the processed image as a new layer on your original in PSP. It also has the advantage that you can run the standalone version of PC 3.5.5 as a plugin from either the 32bit or 64bit version of PSP. Let me know if you need it and I'll provide it with some instructions of the settings you need to set up in Perfectly Clear so that it will work properly.

Hi JoeB and Kathy,

Kathy wins the big one! Toggling interactive mode on seems to have done the trick. My script now works.

Thank you both very much!
