Re: PaintShop Pro 2018 Ultimate JavaScript (and other) Error
Brand new computer with Windows 10 and new X9 hung up on the map in the tutorial the first time I opened it after installation, the first time with the message to try a different browser (I had Edge open), and thereafter just the script error message after I closed Edge and opened Chrome. Corel Help Chat suggested I buy PSP 2018 but I'd been reading this thread.
I'm now waiting for a response from Tech Support, but not with much optimism.
The option of opening the program in Edit mode looks like one I could live with, but it's not going to be right for my sister, who followed my bad advice, and bought the same computer and PSP X9 last month. She has zero experience with graphics programs and needs the tutorials.
Has the solution from Tech Support often quoted here, the one beginning "Windows + R" worked for anyone? I've been reading through this thread for an hour, and I'm starting to get confused.

Re: PaintShop Pro 2018 Ultimate JavaScript (and other) Error
Hello, I'm also a disappointed user with this script error. Corel has a massive problem here, which obviously does not get solved!?
My situation.
Computer - Windows 10 PRO 64bit (updated: 15.3.2018)
The following software programs from Corel are installed in parallel on the computer.
The following situation was in December 2017 (before the Windows updates in January 2018):
- Paintshop Pro X7 Ultimate (32 & 64bit) - no script error!
- Paintshop Pro X9 Ultimate (32 & 64bit) - no script error!
- Paintshop Pro 2018 (32 & 64bit) - no script error!
All programs work without errors. Now I have the following situation in February 2018 (after the Windows updates in January 2018):
- Paintshop Pro X7 Ultimate (32 & 64bit) - Script error !!
- Paintshop Pro X9 Ultimate (32 & 64bit) - Script error !!
- Paintshop Pro 2018 (32 & 64bit) - no script error !! ??
It is not clear to me why PSP X7 and PSP X9 have the script error and PSP 2018 works without script errors.
I have Paintshop Pro X7 now additionally installed on a recent notebook (Windows 10, 64bit, February 2018), but again the script error occurs.
In February 2018 I started using Corel's support. Changes to settings (PSP-X9, IE11), reinstallations and updates of PSP-X9 have been performed multiple times and detailed system reports have been provided, but the script error still exists.
Corel has now resigned and announced to move to the second escalation level of problem solving.(Hope dies last.)
My next step.
According to a proposal from the board, I have replaced the files in the folders Geotagging (Paintshop Pro X7 (32 & 64bit version) and Paintshop Pro X9 (32 & 64bit version)) with those of a current error-free software (Paintshop Pro 2018). (All programs run under Windows 10 Pro.)
The described script error no longer occurs when displaying the position of a photo in GoogleMaps (in Paintshop Pro X7 (32 & 64bit version) and Paintshop Pro X9 (32 & 64bit version)) !!!!).
But now another mistake occurs when assigning a position in GoogleMaps to a photo.
Before the error message comes, the current GoogleMap will be displayed with the current position for the photo for a very short time.
After that, the GoogleMap window will be replaced with the following error message.
"The website can not be shown.
Most likely cause: Some content or files on this website require a program that you have not installed.
Possible procedure:
- Search online for a program that can display this web content.
- Enter the address again.
- Go to the previous page. "
Obviously, the software (Paintshop Pro X7 (32 & 64bit version) and Paintshop Pro X9 (32 & 64bit version)) will not work properly with all replaced PaintShop Pro 2018 geotagging files (folder languages).
Who has a good tip?
Best regards from Germany

Re: PaintShop Pro 2018 Ultimate JavaScript (and other) Error
As I've used PSP for many years I don't use the tutorials so I'm not quite sure exactly what tutorials you're speaking about. There is the Learning Center palette that I'm aware of. And I believe that there might have been links to tutorials on the original Welcome screen (which I have deactivated so can't confirm). I am not aware, however, of what "map" you are speaking of when you talk about X9 being hung up on the map in the tutorial. If (and I stand to be corrected) this is a tutorial that opens the maps/geotagging feature that has caused so many issues for others, then can she simply not use that particular tutorial?dundana wrote:Brand new computer with Windows 10 and new X9 hung up on the map in the tutorial the first time I opened it after installation....

Admittedly, I don't have first hand familiarity with the error that's causing the problems because I have never used that feature so can't comment on what works or doesn't work to keep PSP working without hanging.
And as another option, there are tutorials for beginners here:

Re: PaintShop Pro 2018 Ultimate JavaScript (and other) Error
@ Joe B with gratitude:
Since a precise and correct definition of the problem is required, and since my memory was blurred by shock, I've now uninstalled and reinstalled PSP X9 on my sister's computer to replicate the problem, which occurs at the Welcome Screen. The links to the tutorials can be used.
However, when going through the introduction to the functions of the "Manage" area, when the "map" function is reached, the script error message appears, and neither the yes or no answer works to make the error message go away and stay away; it just loops. At this point X9 locks up, and I have to use Task Manager to close it.
On my own identical new laptop, I managed to get a partially functioning version of X9 by muscling Windows + N repeatedly until I managed to click on the Edit area. I'm not very happy with this as a solution, and I hesitate to do this to someone else's new computer. Especially since I live a couple of hours away and I'm only visiting until tomorrow.
Corel Tech Support sent me an email, referring me to this thread for a work-around. I've asked for clarification as to which work around they have in mind. And mentioned that I was not happy that I had bought software that didn't work on a new computer with an up to date operating system.

Again, while I don't know if this will work, I would suggest that she simply skip the Introduction to the functions if that is, indeed, possible and - assuming the other tutorials are available from other links, just use those. She can get the introduction to PSP X9 from the link I provided.dundana wrote:@ Joe B with gratitude:

Re: PaintShop Pro 2018 Ultimate JavaScript (and other) Error
Hello,
I would like to make a small request in the forum.
Is there even a user with Paintshop Pro X7 (32 & 64bit) or Paintshop Pro X8 (32 & 64bit) or Paintshop Pro X9 (32 & 64bit) under Windows 10 who works without the described script error?
best regards

Re: PaintShop Pro 2018 Ultimate JavaScript (and other) Error
On my computer (Windows 10), I have PSP X7, X8, X9 and 2018 installed.
In PSP 2018, clicking in Manage Mode on the Map (globe) doesn't produce any error.
In PSP X7, X8 and X9, with the same action (Map clicking), the script error window is displayed and PSP must close (unable to exit).
People who want to test but don't have geotagged photos may find such images in their Corel PSP Sample folder (Program Files \ Corel \ CorelPaintShop Pro 2018 \ Data \ Samples)

The error message mentions something about ' google maps javascript AVI".
However a search on that brings up this page:
https://developers.google.com/maps/docu ... ipt/v2tov3
Could it be that Corel has not kept up with this change?

Looks like it, but what are we to do? I (literally) installed this 30 mins ago and experienced the looping-script error on entering the startup screen with Chrome running in the background. Ctrl+Alt+Delete seems to be the only exit strategy.
Precisely the same happened when I ran the 64 bit version.
Simply not good enough.

Re: PaintShop Pro 2018 Ultimate JavaScript (and other) Error
Hello,
and thanks for your messages. It seems to be the same mistake for all users of the approved versions of Paintshop Pro.
For the Corel support I have already described the problem with the script error several times completely with appropriate screenshots.
A first answer from Corel was: (for example) - uninstalling and reinstalling - but the script error still exists.
On my last hint that there was obviously a problem calling GoogleMaps features, Corel returned the following message: "Thanks for your patience - we've handed the problem over to our developers."
Corel really does not seem to be up to date. Product support looks different to me.
Obviously, it affects changes in the interfaces to third parties (GoogleMaps), which are used by Corel.
(see last post by hartpaul above)
Then we all hope for a solution to the scripting issue for all affected versions of Corel Paintshop Pro!
best regards from Germany
PS: Dear Corel developer - is there maybe a little surprise for Easter? (!)

Hi Folks,
RE: x9 on Win10
OMG - this is FUBAR - bitten by the same bug as everyone else I see...
First - all my brushes vanished without a trace so removed and attempted reinstall of PSP - endless GOOGLE MAP API script error...
As a PSP user since Jasc 8 - it may be time to chuck this program in the trash...
Does anyone have a fix - I can't use the program...
Freak'n Corel...

Scott

Thank you so MUCH - this worked - I find it unbelievable that Corel can't fix their own program - it's been MONTHS - and their customers are left to do it on their own... This may very well be my LAST Corel purchase...spitfrog wrote:I have a workaround for X9 64bit (perhaps for X8 and X7 64 too)
It's 2018 files, so this does not solve this problem for 2018
You need to replace files from
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X9 (64-bit)\Languages\EN\GeoTagging
with the content of this archive (backup files before)
You need also tweak the registry to made PSP compatibility with IE (it's important)
For me, it's work fine on Win10 16229.248 - IE11 and PSP X9.2.0.7 64b
If no, it's easy to roll back. If you still have script errors, initialize PSP with Shift key, and retry.
One unhappy customer...

Your profile indicates that you are using Jasc's PSP 9.1. Are you saying that you were having the same issue with that old version and that @spitfrong's fix worked for that version? I didn't know that Jasc's PSP9 even had that feature, but it has been years since I used it.scottb613 wrote:Thank you so MUCH - this worked - I find it unbelievable that Corel can't fix their own program - it's been MONTHS - and their customers are left to do it on their own... Hi Joe,
Sorry - no - I’m using X9 now as referenced in my first post...
The fix worked on X9 x64 - still need to get the 32 bit version working for my Plugins - I’ll, leave that for another day...
Even after all the issues and he fresh install almost all my brushes are still missing - just the basic square and round ones are left -would you have any idea on they issue ?
Have a good day...

Scott

First, if you're using X9 now then you should go to your Profile page and add that to the PSP programs you are using. We look there to determine a person's various configurations and programs, not by reviewing or remembering what might have been said in previous posts.scottb613 wrote:Hi Joe,
Sorry - no - I’m using X9 now as referenced in my first post...
The fix worked on X9 x64 - still need to get the 32 bit version working for my Plugins - I’ll, leave that for another day...
Even after all the issues and he fresh install almost all my brushes are still missing - just the basic square and round ones are left -would you have any idea on they issue ?
What brushes are you talking about? Have you pointed PSP to any particular brushes that you had before by using Preferences>File Locations?
