VSX10 freezing at incomplete render
VSX10.Project about 20 mins long.MPEG 2 selected in share tab for standard DVD burn. Project consists of video and jpegs taken by me. Playback stopped a few times on previewing. On 1st attempt at rendering it stopped at 99% and programme froze. The mpeg optimiser box 1st showed with time segment layout bar nearly all red .Had to close VS via task manager. Did not click accept and closed the box. On 2nd attempt at render VS froze at 85% render this time the segment layout bar gave a different reading, this time I clicked accept. This may not be in the proper sequence of events but I think a reader can get the gist of what is going on. If it is relevant, my C: drive has only 5.35 GB free (I am in the course of backing it up to free up space) the working folder is in my media G: drive which has 343GB free space.
Has anyone any idea what is going on here and what can be done about it.

Re: VSX10 freezing at incomplete render
Ken -- it's not absolutely clear. Were you trying to render the project to a final mpeg-2 which you would later burn to DVD, or were you actually burning the project to DVD when these crashes occurred.
I know you say your working folder is on a hard drive with plenty of space, but if you were actually burning a disc, then the Burn module of VS uses a separate working folder. With the Burn module open, look in the first icon in the bottom left of screen (Settings and Options). By default it is set to the C:\ drive. So unless you have changed this also to G:\, then the lack of space on your C:\ drive is likely to be what is causing these crashes.

I was trying to render to mpeg 2.The info re default C: drive for the burn module was interesting.

Re: VSX10 freezing at incomplete render
I have since found out that trying to clearing hard drive space by the cloud(in my case British Telecom Cloud) was going to be very difficult. The reason being that although I have been syncing folders and files to the cloud and then deleting them from the C: drive, BT Cloud was keeping the folders on the PC in a different and hard to find place but still on my C: drive .Any way, the result now is I now have 97 GB free space on C: drive.Armed with this knowledge and with a little confidence,i tried once more to render the video file to MPEG 2.But to my great disappointment VSX10 froze again at 99% render.Knowing that this is not the fault of low hard drive space is not much consolation. But the bottom line is that I have the latest version of VS and it is not any good to me.

Re: VSX10 freezing at incomplete render
Hi Kenneth
It is possible that the content of the timelines at the end of the project may be causing a conflict
As it fails at 99% what have you added as a closing sequence to your project.
Titles, short video, have you applied any filters, maybe reverse video?
Inspect the last few clips to see whats going on there.
You could set the preview range over the last few minutes, try to render that section, at least the test will not take long?

Re: VSX10 freezing at incomplete render
I went to the share tab and after clicking start to render, a save as box appeared saying that the mpg file already exists and did i want to save the profile. It only gave me this option, there was a cancel field. So I went ahead and burnt a DVD but it stopped midway through (what was an MTA file) and retuned to the opening screen menu of he disc.
So what does this prove ?
So what does this prove ?

Re: VSX10 freezing at incomplete render
Hi Ken
You need to go back a stage to the edit timelines, with your project open.
You seem to indicate using MTA files, I assume that is a typo for MTS. (next key)
I assume your video files are from avchd camcorder, those should be Bluray compliant.
Are you trying to burn a DVD or a Bluray Disc.
From your comments you are burning a DVD.
OK
You have to find the reason for the fail at 99%, do not try burning a disc whilst you are getting this error.
I suggested you use Project Preview Range allowing you to render a short section, makes testing a little quicker.
Were you able to set the preview range.? If you are unsure how to do that please ask.
View the end of your project, check that everything looks ok, if you have added filters then try removing those.
You mentioned that the Mpeg2 video file already existed.
If you play that is it complete, a full version of the project, that the end of the video is not missing.
When the Share indicates the file already exists, cancel, then re-name the file name.
My preference when editing my MTS files is to complete the project by rendering to MTS, using Same as my MTS video properties, that could be Same as First Clip or Same as Project Settings.
Make sure you render to the correct settings.
If that completes ok add the new video to a new project, the file will be “m2ts” rather than MTS.
Now render that to Mpeg2 using the appropriate settings. This should create a video file MPEG2 below 4.3 Gb, Play this video to check quality
Use this file to burn your DVD-Create a disc image will allow you to play using VLC Media Player, if ok d burn the disc image ISO to disc.

Re: VSX10 freezing at incomplete render
I have been using the same Panasonic HC-X920/HC camera as used in the previous project for a long time now and with a project format of AVCHD.MTS files are generated and I render to MPEG2 to burn a DVD as I usually do.
The project at issue is 18 min 29sec long.
A preview range of timecode 16.00 to 18.29 render froze at 58%
“” “” “” 18.00 to end was rendered ok
16.00 to 17.30 froze at 44%
On scrubbing along trying to set a preview range, VS froze at 17.47.17.After closing VS with the Task Manager again and re opening VS it froze again when I was attempting to enter a timecode VS froze again after entering 17.47.At this time code in the project was a Flying Fold 3D transition which I deleted. So I then rendered a preview range of 17.44 to 18.02 which was ok.On attempting to render the whole project ,VS froze rendering at 99%.I have no more answers to this problem

Re: VSX10 freezing at incomplete render
Hi Kenneth
First I would assume it is one of your clips or the type of filter / effect applied.
It could of course be the program.
I would reset the program by re-naming the 20.0 folder
If you require the library first export that to a folder on your desktop
Reset the program
Run the project and try rendering again.
I assume your project properties are set to the MTS video files properties, can you confirm
If yes please try rendering to Same as Project Settings
That will create a M2ts video file.
Does that complete without problems.
If that renders ok, insert the M2ts file to a new project
Render / convert that to Mpeg2, this file being used to burn the disc.
Import the library
As a further test open the original project and render to Mpeg2, does that fail.

Re: VSX10 freezing at incomplete render
The library has MTS files , jpegs and 1MTS music file as a result of split audio. If the way of exporting the library folder is to copy and paste all the files to another folder, on trying this there was a message saying that not all of the files could be copied due to a file format mismatch. If this is not the way what is.How would the lib be imported too.
Need more detail please on how to reset the programme and where I find the 20.0 folder.

Re: VSX10 freezing at incomplete render
Hi Kenneth
From Settings Library Manager – Export Library
Create a folder on your hard drive for these files. I usually call it X10 Library.
Once the library has been exported do – Settings – Library Manager Reset Library
Ok try rendering the project, use Share -- Same as Project Settings.
To reset the program we can rename the 20.0 folder to “20.0_old”, a new folder will be created when running Video Studio
More info here.
http://lata.me.uk/corel/reset/reset.htm
Try Rendering again
If that fails then I would think there is a problem with the actual project content

Re: VSX10 freezing at incomplete render
I have reset the library and exported it but did not import it .I have reset the programme with VS not running. In the Corel VS Pro64 bit folder I created a new folder named 20.0 old. There was a choice of 17.0 modified 27 08 14--19.0 modified 6 1 17 and 20.0 modified 21 11 17.I created a new folder named 20.0 old and did not delete any other folder. I rendered again and VS froze at 99%.I returned to the 20.0 old folder modified 15 12 17and it was empty. The 20.0 folder had 706 Mb in it. Did you mean rename the 20.0 folder to 20.0_old with an underscore because all I did after looking at the image was to add a new folder named 20.0old and without an underscore.
When you said” try rendering the project, use Share -- Same as Project Settings. ”Did you just mean make sure the Project settings are still true or is there a specific field where this can be selected

Re: VSX10 freezing at incomplete render
Hi Kenneth
We can render to our project properties using the Share options, view image
The tick box is hard to see, a little transparent.
Once selected the drop down arrow allows us to select Same as First Clip, and if the first clip on the timeline is your MTS file then we can use that option.
View the properties showing in the lower panel to confirm they are correct/suitable.

Re: VSX10 freezing at incomplete render
Thanks for that Trevor, my 1st clip is sample SP V04.wmv so I do not think I can use that in this instance. What I am most concerned with now is the issue I am having rendering as it is stopping me from using VS.
Would be grateful if you could address the specific problems I have wrote about in the previous post.
“I have reset the library and exported it but did not import it .I have reset the programme with VS not running”
“In the Corel VS Pro64 bit folder I created a new folder named 20.0 old”
“There was a choice of 17.0 modified 27 08 14--19.0 modified 6 1 17 and 20.0 modified 21 11 17.I created a new folder named 20.0 old and did not delete any other folder.”
I rendered again and VS froze at 99%.
I returned to the 20.0 old folder modified 15 12 17and it was empty. The 20.0 folder had 706 Mb in it.

Do I need to alter what I have done above, if so how and that will allow me to try again in the next stage of eliminating whatever the problem is
Ken
