I too am having issues with H.265 HEVC video in X10.. comes up transparent/black and white. I have audio but not video

I believe that my computer should support it

I have intel core i7-6700 quad core processor and a Nvidea GeForce GTX 980Ti graphics card

VS will play audio from my file, but not video.

Do I need a converter?

Seems that my iPhone using ios11 is shooting video in HEVC format

Is it shooting the HEVC with a constant or variable frame rate? As you probably know from quite a few other threads here, including a couple of earlier posts in this thread, VS has difficulty with video filmed with a variable frame rate.

No setting on the iphone that Im aware of. The properties of the video show 30fps and I can change to 60, but it looks like its contant to me?

I was able to download the clip fr my cloud as mp4, so Im able to use it... but my phone data synchs ro
My computer and the file came in as HEVC and I wasnt able to open it.

Would be curious though if there was another work around using Corel. I think we will be seeing more and more of this file type. Likewise HEIC images.

Make sure you have HEVC on your machine. M$ removed it and put it back, but to check you can download it from M$ HERE.

As for cellphone videos, Ken is right. Most all frame accurate editors have problems with variable frame rate video. Go to the FCP forum and they have problems with iPhone videos. Usually they convert them to constant frame video.
One tool you can use is called HANDBRAKE. It's free. I use it to convert problematic video to something that can easily be edited. Make sure you have Constant Frame Rate.
If you want to know what your video is, and if it's variable or constant frame rate, you can use MediaInfo. Make sure you select View>Tree, and then drag and drop your video there.

that's super helpful; I didn't have HVEC installed, so now windows can play the video. Interesting that my quicktime cannot, and it's an mov file.

corel stills sees it as b/w transparent. I will look into downloading handbrake to convert the file. Think that will be easiest.

Thanks for the help
