Hi liransc

and welcome to the forums

I assume you meant I cannot edit 4k video

I assume you provided Corel Support with a sample, are you able to provide a sample video here.
Upload to a sharing site Google Drive etc. and post your share link here.

It may be that you have to convert the video to a more editable format

Are you using the trial version or the purchased version?

Hi

That video uses H265 codec HEVC and is very demanding on my pc resources
my pc is not capable of editing HEVC, as far as I know would have to install a graphics card compatible to H265.
Video Studio shows the frame as black / transparent, when inserted to the timeline shows Black and White.

Video Studio shows the properties as:-
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 3840 x 2160, 29.841 fps
Frame-based
H.265 Main 10 Profile Video: 30239 Kbps
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 192 Kbps

The frame rate 29.841 indicates a variable frame rate, causes problems for video editors as a constant frame rate is used.

VLC Media player displays the frame but does not play, as though it’s a still image.
WMV Player sees the clip as a sound file.
Movie & TV shows a black screen

For me it’s a problem with my pc environment and not a Video Studio issue, I would have to convert that video to a more editable format.

Your computer needs to have at least a Skylake (6th generation) Intel CPU to be able to edit H.265 video. You haven't given your computer specifications, but as Trevor has already suggested from his own experience, if your computer does not have powerful specifications, it will not be able to play H.265. It is not a problem caused by Video Studio. I also understand that Windows 8.1 -- which you appear to be using -- cannot deal with H.265, which was really developed for the Windows 10 environment.

As Trevor suggested, unless your computer is a powerful one, you will need to convert the video to another format (e.g. H.264). Handbrake is a free video converter which can do so. It will also correct the variable frame rate to a standard one (29.97 fps).

Ken and Trevor are right. It's a H265-file and at least you need the Skylake. I have that and can open, edit and export your sample.

Hi Hansi

I see you display the Green Line, I also have problems with that.
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... ne#p347696

As for the HEVC sample, I have other samples and can play them via VS, need proxy files, it is this sample that does not play on my pc. But cannot Render using HEVC, at least the program will not let me unless I force it to render.
I do not know why the program disables that rather than giving the user the choice.
Hansi, can you provide a small sample rendered using Videostudio maybe from of the Sample SP-V01

Trevor,
with which export format do you want to have your sample? I have a sample file in hevc/h265. Is that Okey? Is further the question where to upload ...

Trevor, I have been uploaded the file into the "box". A nice chunk of 135 MB. It is an export product of VSX10. Setting see screenshot. It is a surprisingly good quality on my 4K monitor recognizable. And this from a mobile phone ...

When I insert the original video from liransc into the timeline, I get the message asking if I want Project Properties to match those of the clip. I say OK and the Project Properties are now the same as the clip, including the non-standard frame rate of 29.841 fps. The original also has the Green Line. I then play the clip in Clip mode. It plays in jumps and starts though the quality of the image on screen is excellent. At the end of the playback, X10 crashes without my attempting anything more.

I repeated these steps but did not attempt to play back the clip. Instead I went to Share, but I don't have HEVC as an output choice under MPEG-4 since my computer does not have a Skylake chip. However, I can choose Same As Project Settings and give the output a new name. On pressing START, there was momentary movement, but then nothing further happened. X10 did not crash, but rendering did not occur -- I assume because of the non-standard frame rate in the settings.

Hansi's reworking of the clip inserts, brings up the same message about matching Project Properties, but also plays jerkily. However, X10 did not crash after playing it. I then went to Share > Same As Project Settings. Since Hansi's frame rate is standard 25 fps, rendering takes a while but completes successfully. The new file has all the same HEVC settings but still plays back erratically, and when it finishes playing, X10 crashes again. This crash is repeatable.

Hi Ken

Using CVSX10…
From Share - I see three h265 options from the Mpeg4 bottom of list.
But when I try to use those I get a message that my graphics has a problem
If I render using Same as Project Properties as H265 it rendered ok without the warning.
Could not view in VS, just showed as transparent / black
That was last week now the program simply crashes when trying to render.

Unfortunately a few days ago I did a system restore using a Disc Image to clean my system.
The only thing I can think of is the K-Lite codec pack which I had installed a while ago.

Now I have reinstalled K-Lite and I can play liransc sample using Video Studio, also shows the message to match properties.
Hansi's sample is transparent in VS but ok on Windows Explorer?

Windows explorer
Strange that some H265 samples show the thumbnail ok as an image whilst others show an icon.

I think my pc is fast enough to render H265 but the program will not let me. Hmmm

All of my H.265 clips -- not that I have all that many -- show properly in VS and File Explorer...

Curiously enough, I have just reopened X10 after the last crash, and now neither the original nor Hansi's reworking of it, or indeed my own test render, show anything when inserted in the timeline. All come up bland showing half white, half black -- though the correct image image shows in the preview screen.

None of the samples play properly in VLC player -- only the first image shows (very clearly) but stays static, while the cursor plays through to the end. Another curious thing is that both the original and my re-rendering of it play audio, while Hansi's does not -- which is curious since his clip's audio properties are the same as the original's (and mine). This also occurs when I play the clips in Windows Media Player. However WMP plays all the clips properly right through, although all three appear a slight bit jerky, though this might have been from original hand shake...

Hi Ken

I did a google regarding H265 and the last big windows update (Fall Creators Update) to 1709 has been mentioned as effecting the function of H265.

As said I was able to render to H265 using correct project properties.
Not tested HEVC since then till this post when things just did not work as I expected.

As of this morning VID_20171209_141758 plays ok with Windows Media
The sample from Hansi plays but slow and stuttering.

Both show transparent in X10 library
Both crash program when adding to the timelines.

Just found one of my test samples that does not crash X10 using these properties?
Transparent and B/W on timeline?
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 25 fps
Frame-based
H.265 Main Profile Video: 2536 Kbps, 16:9
44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 129 Kbps

Bit of a nightmare

Hi,
I once again played both files with WinDVD. Once the original clip of threadstarter, then my VSX10 HEVC export. In both cases no unnatural jerking. Except the shaking of the cameraman. My Windows 10 version is currently 1709.
