Add snowflakes
What is the easiest method to add snowflakes in a picture in PSP v8 ( I think that's the version I have - It's one less than the current) using a plug-in or just PSP?

Re: Add snowflakes
I use a Picture Tube (my own) which I add on it's own layer, then use Adjust>Blur>Motion Blur to make it snow.
Repeating on another layer makes it look more realistic.
Int the attached I used 2 different tubes.
You could also use Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add Noise and do the same. (needs some experimentation!)
I can't attach a Picture Tube here unfortunately .

Good Evening..
I found this Vander Lee Plugin a century ago when Jasc Version 8 was the latest and greatest. It works with all versions up to and including PSP X9. Check it out:

Re: Add snowflakes
I just used that effect this week in PSP 2018. Works a treat.

Re: Add snowflakes
What is it that makes some plugins to work a treat for some, but not for others?
I just tried the VanderLee Snowflakes in X9...no problems. Same with X7.
Then another time a plugin won't work on mine and I seem to be the only one.
Think that's why I use as little plugins as possible.

Re: Add snowflakes
Some plugins haven't been updated by their developers and need some extra work to get them to work.
The Plugin site has a lot of information on that:
http://thepluginsite.com/knowhow/tutori ... tion.htm#8
I prefer to use PSP for most things, rather than rely on plugins, so my list of plugins is very small.
Although the Redfield Plugins are excellent. I use Sharplet as my preferred way to sharpen (always on a duplicate layer, which I drag under the top layer and then erase on the top layer for best effects - hah, you didn't really want to know all that.)
The VanderLee filters are excellent, a shame I can't get them to work.
I might re-install an ancient version of PSP just to play

Re: Add snowflakes
I originally had the same problem with my version of Snowflakes. Are you using a version you downloaded some time ago? If so I suggest that you download again from the link Muriel provided. I recently downloaded and installed that instead of the one I got years ago and it works just fine, and it works in 64bit programs as well. So I suspect that it has been updated. The installer will automatically find all compatible programs you have installed, both 32bit and 64bit except - in my case - PSP2018. But I believe you can add it manually.Joelle wrote:The vanderlee plugins refuse to work in PSPX9, so I do it manually

Thanks Joe, will do

A little later:
Snowflakes work, amazing
Snowscape doesn't, will investigate some more.
Very odd, the version numbers are the same as before. I downloaded the previous one on 2015.

Brushes.
I found some amazing stars brushes out there on the net that are really nice. Just do a search for ps brushes and then import them into psp. You will find tons of brushes for this.

Re: Add snowflakes
I love the Vanderlee Snowflakes plug in. I have many versions of PSP but it works great in 2018. Mind you, I originally used it in PSP X2 ( my favorite) and have directed 2018 to there for the plug ins.
Re: Add snowflakes
Good Evening..
It is curious that the Vanderlee plugin does not work for you since it works flawlessly for me in PSP X 9. Are you sure you have the proper .dll files? Perhaps this thread may be helpful: I realize it is old, so if it is not relevant, some kind moderator will surely explain further.

Re: Add snowflakes
Thanks Muriel, they're working now. The old files stopped the new ones from working, so deleted the old files.
Funny, the version numbers are the same in the file name, but show a different number when you install. Very odd.

Re: Add snowflakes
If you don't mind paying (!) there's alway Akvis NatureArt which includes snow as one of its effects and has more control than Vanderlee:
