PSP 2018 doing the same thing I uninstalled X9 for...

Post by PASTIMES »

Hello,
I keep getting crashes in Win 10 stating "Paint Shop Pro 2018 has stopped working".
This exact same problem happened with PSP X9 earlier this year, which even after futile Corel tech support, forced me to abandon the program.
I was anxious to try the newest version, but am now really disappointed and frustrated the it is happening again.
I have a newish PC and encounter zero issues with any other program.
I did try some of the suggestions found on this board, but to no avail.
Does anyone else have any suggestions, anyone else having the same problem?
Thank you.

I had to give up on X9 for the same reason you did. Constant crashing. I was hoping the new version would be better and I could try it again but apparently not. So disappointing. Thanks for the report.

I did something unusual today.
Rather than using the cleanup tool to remove X9, I just ran the setup again.
Had to fill in the serial and activation number and redo a few settings.
Saved the workspace, so that was no problem.
Opened with servicepack 4 installed, so basically I repaired some basic X9 files.
My X9 never recovered from the big bang in August and I never was able to open a new image, using the icon, only by SHIFT+N
Now it all seems to work fine.
Wouldn't recommend it for my users, but if it works...it works. For now.

I'm not sure it's a Windows 10 thing, though. Could very wel be Corel.
I noticed that in the last week, X9 turned from my light grey workspace to black again. Why would Windows do that.
An X6 folder all of a sudden was added to Program Files(x86). Haven't had that version for years now.
Again, can't see that is a Windows thing.
I don't know.

OK, so I was not quite ready to give up, so I tried this: I set the properties of both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions to compatibility with Windows 7.
I have now used the software pretty robustly, and so far no crashes.
Obviously a user should not have to play around with work-arounds on new software, but this does appear to be the current solution.

I have X6 & X9 on Windows 7 and have not had problems described here- so it appears a Windows 10 issue ( which Corel should address for 2018 or at least publish your fix of using compatibility mode for Win 7 on Win 10).
