Vertical Tool bar and Standard bar disappears

Post by iraisok »

I D/L'd and fully installed PSPU 2018 on 11/26. No problems at all installing it with other programs and plug-ins. Wonderful experience - Kudos to the Corel team!

A minor nuisance discovery that is bound to confuse newbees - people dedicated to going through the tutorials and other help features.

I open an image from Edit tab. The vertical Tools bar and the horizontal Standard tool bar are visible as they should since they are both checked in Tools option.
If I click the Welcome tab then return to Edit, those two bars are missing. See Attachment image (reverse sequence) with captions above each image

Workaround - Either uncheck Tools or Standard tool bar then recheck it OR click Manage tab then return to Edit tab to see those bars again.

Anyone else experience this - Give it a try.

Hopefully others might add comments here. But I have never -- not once -- adjust anything in that Toolbars dropdown list i.e. neither checking nor unchecking. The scroll bars are there when I enlarge an image beyond the size of the screen, and they are still there when I first go to the Home/Welcome screen and back to Edit. No adjustment required to get the scroll bars back. I wonder if anyone else sees what you get?

But at the very least I would be resetting the program, even though I know you have only just installed it! To do that hold down the Shift key when you click on the desktop icon to open PSP. You should get a msg asking if you want to reset. Make sure you save your Workspace first if you have Customized it as resetting will bring up the default Workspace.

Having used complex software and involved with complex electronics, NOTHING surprises me anymore (even though I am mostly retired now).

Yippy! Thanks for the method to perform the reset. (Shift OPEN PSPU solved the problem. Now, when I go from Edit --> Welcome --> Edit ALL bars reappear. Nothing disappears! I had nothing to lose not having customized anything. The only thing I needed to do is re-add Google Nik Collection.

I still notice a msg "Do you want to enable software logging ... " ONLY when I use a shortcut key combo (any one) to open PSPU. Does not appear if I click the icon to open it. I reported that in an earlier post that again possibly I am/will be the only one on the planet to experience this... and I run a lean ship - PC that is and nothing is off the wall here. I am very aware of what is on my PC, where it is and have my methods to "keep it clean."

Much Thanks,
Ira

PS - tell me how to add my name as in a Signature block. I cannot find it in my User Control Panel area.

I assume you realize that resetting PSP does not actually remove the Nik Collection from your PC. It is still there. All you have to do in PSP is go to File > Preferences> File Locations, and scroll down to Plug-ins. Then click on the Add button and navigate to where the Nik files are located (usually C:\Program Files\ Google\Nik Collection, then OK out. Now when you go to Effects > Plug-ins the Nik filters should be available in both 32 and 64 bit versions of PSP. A great set of filters which I use quite a bit.

As for inserting a signature, open User Control Panel and click on the Profile tab. Then over on the left you should see Edit Signature. That's where you insert what you want to appear. See image below:

Ken,

I've no idea how I missed the "Edit Signature" option after exploring every section and Sub-section. Tnx - added my name.

Next, yes, I knew Google Nic did not get deleted. I re-added it. And in another post I learned from Levi that I n fact ctrl-shift is used to log troubleshooting info.

Ken,

Another question about this forum - is there an option to when I visit this forum to only view posts that I've not read? The Pinnacle Studio forum has such an option top right.

I think you are only interested in this specific PaintShop Pro forum. If so, then I am not aware of any control to only show posts you haven't read. That sort of control exists, but for the whole Board and not specific forums on the Board. In other words, if you chose that control, you would see all unread posts from every forum here, which I am pretty sure you would not want!

I guess the designers of our somewhat antiquated Board software figured that showing the list of threads containing unread posts in bold text and descending order in terms of the time they were posted to be sufficient.

There could be a disadvantage to some of us to use a setting that showed only unread posts in the forum if such a setting existed. Quite often we'll read a thread that starts with a question to which we don't have the answer. But perhaps the next time we enter the forum we might have come up with an answer. But if there are no more unread posts in that thread then we wouldn't be able to just scroll down to that thread again to post our answer because it wouldn't be visible. It's pretty easy using the bold/red icons appearing in order of time to see unread posts but still have read posts available to re-enter to either refresh our memories or add a reply to.

JoeB

Ken and Joe,

Good points. I will be visiting other areas but yes, my primary interest is PSP.
