How to disable "... Software Logging" pop-up
Has anyone experienced this goofy thing. Here is what I asked Corel Support - It was sent to Engineering(?) but since I just signed on to the forum (thanks guys) maybe I'll get a faster answer.
WHY does the attached image pop-up BEFORE PSPU2 2018 (latest - just D/L'd) when I use a / any shortcut key combo that I assign to the PSP icon (CTRL-SHFT-P for example) to open the application? It does NOT pop-up when I click the PSP icon to open the program.
a. Why does it pop-up and ONLY when using a shortcut key combo to open PSP?
b. How can I TURN IT OFF?
I have made other discoveries, none critical. I'll present them here as new topics if a) Tech Support does not get back or b) their response is not acceptable and a search at this forum does not reveal the the issues already known.
Really enjoying the program and the video tutorials (thank you)! My last version of Paintshop Pro was 5.03 (don't laugh - it served me well for what I needed. I now realized how much more I can do with this. I also use Pinnacle Studio 21 Ultimate.

Don’t know about the CTRL-SHFT-P ???
There have been lots of posts regarding the popups
Not sure if a definite answer has been found but read this posts.

Re: How to disable "... Software Logging" pop-up
As stated, has nothing to do with my use of that particular shortcut key assignment. It happens with ANY shortcut key I used. That particular pop-up ONLY occurs when using a shortcut key (the keyboard) to open PSPU 2018 and never happens when clicking any icon to open it.lata wrote:Don’t know about the CTRL-SHFT-P ???

Trevor, the pop up I show is not an ad. It is program related. None of the comments or suggestions at the other topic apply. Nor is that any control provided within PSPU 2018.lata wrote:Don’t know about the CTRL-SHFT-P ???

I expect my finding was a software omission that might get corrected in a future patch... this if I'm not the only one to experience it.

The other posts regarding pop ups do not relate to the one I speak of. This one is not an ad and there is no control within the program that addresses this one nor is there an option in the follow on dialog that includes an option to turn it off.

Re: How to disable "... Software Logging" pop-up
As far as I can recall -- and I've been on this Board for around 13 years -- I have never before seen any reference to this type of pop-up. I've just done an advanced search related to it and its wording, but that returned nil results (as I sort of expected). Personally, I did not even know there was a way to start programs -- not just Corel programs -- with shortcut keyboard combinations, though from what you say this is your usual approach.
What I don't understand, though, is what the utility of this procedure is. Clearly you have to move three fingers to get the keyboard combination you use, while using the mouse to single or double click the program desktop icon uses slightly less effort -- and for many of us is the only way we know to open a program. Moreover, as you say, you don't get that (to me) strangely worded pop-up if you use the mouse.
I also have to confess I don't know whether your keyboard shortcut is set up as part of Windows or somewhere in PSP itself. In other words, while the pop-up itself clearly relates to PSP, is the coding behind the words a response from Windows independent of the coding of PSP itself, or something intrinsic to only PSP inserted by the PSP coders? Either way, I'd have to be honest and say I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting for a patch from Corel.

Re: How to disable "... Software Logging" pop-up
Ken,
While I believe there are many Windows PC users who assign shortcut keys that make sense to them and prefer use that instead of "walking" the mouse to an icon, be it on desktop or in the Start menu. When I turn my PC on, the first thing I do is quick open 3 programs almost instantly by pressing shortcut keys.
That said, would you kindly run a test and assign a shortcut key to the icon you click to open PSPU 2018 x64. Right-mouse on the icon, click Properties, click inside Shortcut Keys box then use mine - press CTRL-SHIFT-P. You will see it appear and remain in the box. Close out the application menu then open PSPU by pressing holding CTRL-SHIFT then toggle the letter P.
I have a hunch that the message I see offering to log to gather verbose troubleshooting information was left over code when the s/w development team needed to analyze a problem.... and it was NEVER removed or commented out when this version was released. The ONLY reason my theory would not fly is that so far, no one as come forth to report same. Your test could prove interesting. FYI: My installation of everything went very smooth Program, plug-ins and add-on programs run fine. Nothing strange here.

Re: How to disable "... Software Logging" pop-up
PSP has two startup options that are activated if you open the program while holding the SHIFT or CTRL keys. If you hold SHIFT while opening PSP it'll reset PSP to factory defaults. If you hold SHIFT + CTRL it'll enter verbose troubleshooting mode. Verbose mode will create a dump when PSP crashes to be share with the developers. Just use a key combination that doesn't use SHIFT and CTRL together.

Re: How to disable "... Software Logging" pop-up
Great! Thanks - sort of what I was suggesting but you nailed it! I shall change it to ctrl-alt-[ltr]. 1st level tech support had no idea. Also, the PDF manual made no mention of these key / key combo ... for what the do, albeit, they are forbdebug when instructed, but to AVOID their use or the what if you assign them within a shortcut. Anyway..... Tnx again.LeviFiction wrote:PSP has two startup options that are activated if you open the program while holding the SHIFT or CTRL keys. I always find that forum folks know more and respond quicker. Still funny no one stumbled up it when they selected a shortcut key combo with CTRL-SHFT. I know of othe s/w that include methods to capture test logs.
Thanks much,

Re: How to disable "... Software Logging" pop-up
That's because probably nobody except you uses Ctrl+Shift+letter to launch PSP (and, if the issue was present using ANY key combo to launch PSP then likely very few people would appear to be using such shortcuts to launch PSP).iraisok wrote:I always find that forum folks know more and respond quicker. Ira
The keylogging is only invoked when trying to launch PSP starting with a shortcut starting with both the Shift and Control keys. Once PSP is launched you can use that combo with different letters as shortcuts for different actions. For example, Ctrl+Shift+L already exists as the default shortcut combo to Paste into Selection.
However, you said in your earlier post that using any shortcut combo to launch PSP invokes the keylogging dialogue. If that is actually accurate then even changing to your thought to use ctrl-alt-[ltr] would still cause the problem for you. If that combo works without invoking the keylogging dialogue then, obviously, it isn't an issue with any key combo.

Time to add yet another key combo that does NOT include SHIFT or CTRL-SHIFT to the list of back door goodies built into PSP 2018, ironically OMITTED from ANY documentation.
This is worth sharing with the Community! I just tried CTRL-ALT-C and surprise... see attachment. CTRL-ALT brings up the multiple option "Reset the Application" menu.
I will keep CTRL-ALT-C as the assignment for PSP and just press {ESC} to continue with loading. I still find it hard to believe that you feel that few people choose to assign shortcut keys to more quickly load programs. I guess I'm from old school DOS days but seriously, for me - I mouse around when that is more efficient and leave it alone, do not look at screen and let 'em load instantly with memorized shortcuts.

Re: How to disable "... Software Logging" pop-up
Actually, I said that it was unlikely that most PSP users (not computer users in general or for other programs) used shortcuts to launch PSP. That was because the only evidence we have had to date that there are any issues with using shortcuts to launch PSP is you as a user. Nobody else has found - or at least reported - such an issue. So, at the very least, if there are any PSP users who use shortcuts to launch PSP then either they have used shortcuts that are different from the ones you are trying to use - and therefore don't get those dialogues popping up - or they don't care about the unexpected dialogues that open.iraisok wrote: I still find it hard to believe that you feel that few people choose to assign shortcut keys to more quickly load programs.
