I noticed that when starting up Video studio, the background, as well as the small moving bar at the bottom of the startup screen was red, now all of a sudden it is blue, why? have I lost something I don't know about, whats happening? should I worry?

Sounds like you just applied the first UVS 9 patch. You didn't lose anything, it looks like Ulead decided to update the splash screen, maybe to easily distinguish the unpatched version from a patched one. They did NOT update the About dialog version number for some odd reason....
