New From Template button

Post by hartpaul »

Have done some searching on this topic. The button is to the right of the New button just under Edit.
The help files show:
Starting projects from a template
You can access a wide range of creative templates on the New From Template tab in the New Image dialog box—from cards, to collages, brochures, and social media templates. You can choose from a selection of free templates or you can purchase templates.
Now has anybody been able to obtain these free templates that are supposed to be opened from this button. When I click on it I get the choice of Blank Canvas or New From Template. However to even test the performance of this or use it requires me to buy a template for a minimum of $2.48. Has Corel missed out on some marketing here. Where are my free templates as mentioned in the Help files so that I can test it out to see if I want to purchase more templates.
For me I may as well remove the button (customisation) as it takes up space and for all intent and purposes is useless unless I want to pay for its use.
Mmmm is that the way Corel is going sell you the program and then make buttons inoperable or unusable until you pay a fee.

It seems the free templates are missing. We had access to free templates previously. As I don't use those templates yet, I didn't verify the availability in the last release...

I see also a confusion between the Print templates in the "Print layout" section and the "New from template".

I have verified in X9 and I have some free templates :

Thank you for that Jean-Luc.
Found the free templates - Shatter 1, Shatter 2, and Shatter 3 in Collages.
Interesting how they work and I found it better to use the magic wand to make a selection on the layer where each Image place marker was located. Then cpy and paste into selection .

Curiously, I did a full PC search -- after not locating those three Shatter templates, Jen-Luc -- and only came up with Shatter 01. It said it was located in my main Pictures library, but in fact it was not there. Shatter 02 and 03 never came up at all after a search. And in fact in PSP X9 none of them at all appeared under New from Template. Lots of $ ones but not one free one. So I am a bit mystifed -- particularly by the one whose search thought it was in my Pictures library but was nowhere to be found. And I couldn't think why it would have been there anyway.

Any hints as to where yours are actually located, Jean-Luc? Je te serai gré...

Mine are here (see attached). I downloaded those template on August 2016.
They are perhaps no more available if Corel has changed his mind or if PSP 2018 installation changed something to X9 too.

I've found a bunch of free templates in PSP2018 in each of the categories such as Collage, Cards, Business, etc. They are awkward to find as you need to click on each card to find its cost of it is already installed. Would be nice if moving with the arrows would focus on the item. In many instances you have to buy one part such as the front while the back is free. Items installed in X9 are available in 2018. What happens if you are using 2018 but uninstalled X9 - do you lose all the templates you paid for in X9?

The free templates I have in X9 are not visible in 2018 with the "New from template" button.
I copied them in another place (they are on C: and could be erased by a reinstall or other).
When I open 2018, I don't see those templates when I click on the "New from template" button.
But if I open a template as a "normal" file, it opens and it works. So, if you remove X9, you will still have those templates.
I don't know about templates you buy. Are they in a special place ? Didn't tried.

I've actually bought and installed some of the Corel templates now. But I simply store them in a folder marked Corel Templates in my Pictures library. Then open and edit them in PSP. Some are in PNG format and so can also be edited/used in other graphics programs, though of course the ones in PSPimage format are limited to PSP.

Thanks for that Mark. Finally went through and downloaded all the freebies. Now is there a way of accessing those without having to scroll through all the advertised / pay for ones. I can't remember which ones have now been downloaded and installed. Winge winge complain complain :?

One more question... As I said, I actually purchased some of the Corel templates (and cards). These did not come with any installation process, so as I said above, I simply have them in a folder I created in my Pictures library. I can access and use them as intended by simply opening them in PSP as I would any image.

But they do not show in that "Purchased" drop down menu, and I can't find a way of including them there. Shatter_01, Shatter_02 and Shatter_03 show under Collages > Purchased. So do the freebie cards I installed. These show in PSP X19 and 2018, even though as far as I can find they are stored in C:\Users\Ken\Documents\Corel PaintShop Pro\19.0\Download\Template. Curiously enough C:\Users\Ken\Documents\Corel PaintShop Pro\2018\ does NOT contain a Download folder and most of the folders there are in any case empty.

I also cannot find any Templates category under Preferences > File Locations apart from Print Templates, but that of course is something different.

I can happily live with the way I am currently using my purchased templates and cards, but would love to know if there is a solution to why they don't appear under New From Template > Purchased. I hate mysteries!

Thanks for that Jean-Luc. Since I had not purchased any I would not have considered looking there. Perhaps that should say Installed.

I think he meant that the dropdown with the button that says Purchased should also have a button that says Downloaded or maybe Free to indicate that it contains the free downloads and not just the purchased downloads. If you haven't actually purchased any but only downloaded the free ones you might not see any reason for choosing the Purchased button. :-)
