VS 10 Screen Recorder Error #0

Hey y'all, I'm new to VS10 and am trying to get to know the app, I tried to record a desktop video for a sample to play around with and got an error, "Prepare Record Failed!!! #0" when the countdown starts.

IF I uncheck "system audio" in the audio settings it will record but I don't get any system sounds.

any ideas on where to go from here??

I do not know, Screen Capture works for most Unfortunately when it faulty it’s a bit of a pain to fix.
Can you try deselecting System Audio, then try Sound Check, Input options, is there other options than Mic?

Is your system Audio being used by another app?
Have you tried re-installing the audio drivers.
Sorry i do not have a definite solution

Hey Lata thanks for the reply,

I just recently reinstalled my sound drivers and updated them to the latest because of the last Win 10 Creators update, I also reinstalled the DirectX installer just to make sure.

I have one Creatives Zx series PCIe cards, it should be able to handle being used by several apps at once with no problems but, no I was not running anything else at the time that was using sound. (it's this one: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product. ... 6829102049 )

I did run a sound check and my mic works fine and I CAN record a video with voice over enabled only, but if I enable "system audio" it crashes every time with the error "Prepare Record Failed!!! #0".

I do already have a screen recorder form Cyberlink and it works fine, I just wanted to try out the one with VideoStudio 10 to see which one worked better.

Ok I just made a discovery, the Cyberlink screen recorder allows me to choose from wmv OR mp4 for recording format, the Corel one only gives me the wmv option.

If I set the CL recorder to wmv format the video will record but has an error saving the video, BUT set in mp4 format it records and saves the video properly, although there is an annoying echo in the voice recording.

If I set the Corel recorder sound options to record voice ONLY it records fine, saves the video, and gives a very nice voice recording. ONLY enabling system audio causes the crash.

It must have to do with the wmv format and windows 10, I seem to remember back when win 10 first came out it had many issues with some codecs, I don't remember specifically but I remember using the OBS open source recorder for a project and having issues with playback of recorded sound, I had to use install VLC media player and use it to hear any sound as none of the windows apps would play the recordings properly.

I notice that I can ONLY choose wmv in the recorder, is this correct? or should I have other options?
Also I cannot choose to "capture to library", it is grayed out.

Is it possible that it is not installed correctly?

And THAT solved it!

I had to change the system playback settings back to stereo and it works!!

I like the sound capture of the Corel recorder much better then the one form CL, I'll just have to remember to change it when doing recordings and then switch it back when watching my TV or movies.

If you choose Voice - Sound Check – Input Device, is there an option for Stereo Mix?

I am not having any problems with the Screen Capture, although that does not help you other to confirm it does work.

there is another issue regarding Surround Sound and Voice recordings, project properties have to be Stereo

Ok that solved the library issue, it does work if I launch from within VS10, thanks you again!

When I select Voice - Sound Check – Input Device, I get: Digital In, Microphone, What you hear, and that's it. No option for stereo mix that I can see.

Windows 10 does not show Stereo Mix if it is disabled. The link below gives a good indication how vto activate/access.

Interesting MrJohnny, I already have show disabled devices turned on but I don't have Stereo Mix.

I wonder if installing that Realtek driver/codec will interfere with my Creative SoundBlaster Zx?

Be careful, ensure a fallback position if you do try it and it goes wrong.

It may be the type of Audio driver that names the Stereo mix as Digital in

I would not worry or change things as you now have Screen Capture working

Yeah you're probably right, it's working with just a little adjustment, so I'll just use it as is.
