Video Plug-in & ScreenCap interferes w\ in-Browser Messenger

Post by jesario »

Hello,

I found some odd incompatibility behavior (not exactly a bug) that cropped up with an install of VS X9 on my Windows 10 64bit machine (AMD/16gb). For months I was not able to use Facebook Messenger's Video (or audio) calling within Chrome and IE. It kept reporting that I did not have a camera installed, cannot connect, and/or to click "Allow" to use it. The camera worked fine on other webpages including making Facebook live video. I noticed that Chrome was picking up both the Corel Video Plug-in and the Corel Screen Capture within Chrome when making the call.

I uninstalled VSX9 and it worked. I reinstalled VS and it stopped working. So I removed all the registry keys associated with them and it works again leaving VSX9 as a temporary and not the best fix.

I do not necessarily blame VS, I think it is a system problem that could be addressed by both MS and Google. MS does not seem to specify a default camera to let Chrome know which to use. So it kept selecting Corel's plug-ins, even after setting it right in Chrome's settings. Oddly other pages that accessed the camera worked. I once installed VSx6 and then uninstalled leaving X9 there. It worked for a while as I noticed the ordering of the camera's and plugin was reversed (hence the lack of a defaulted camera that could fix the issue.) Unless VS is leaving those two available to the system when they shouldn't be - then it would be our issue.

Hope this helps someone else looking for an answer.
