Problem with Perfectly Clear Plugins in PSP 2018

Post by rljk »

I’m having a problem with the PerfectlyClear plugin in PaintShop Pro 2018 (ver 20.2.0.1 x64).

I don’t use the plugin often but when I do I get a message saying that the plugin isn’t installed, about half of the time. All of the menu picks are in place and the plugin seems to be installed but if I access the plugin (switch to the edit workspace, select an image to work on, and launch the plugin using the menus (Effects/Plugins/Athentech Imaging/Perfectly Clear v3)) I get a message that says …..
PaintShop Pro 2018 Plugin Problem Capture.JPG
The file “PerfectlyClearSE.8bf” is installed at “C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 (64-bit)\PlugIns\EN\Perfectly Clear SE v3”.

Most of the time all I have to do is reinstall the plugin to get it operational. About 10% of the time, simply reinstalling the plugin doesn’t work. In these cases I need to rename the file “PerfectlyClearSE.8bf” to something else (typically “PerfectlyClearSE.8bf.org”) then, reinstalling the plugin will make it operational again.

I did not experience this problem with PaintShop Pro X8 with Perfectly Clear SE v2 installed.

No windows updates have been installed since PaintShop Pro 2018 was installed.

I believe the problem existed prior to my installing update-1 but I’m not certain.

The only other plugin I have installed is “ParticalShop” and I have not had any trouble running it.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

It does work now, I had to run the vcredist.exe in the plugin folder. It starts and loads an edit screen

Can you explain what made you try to run that file and why that should work? Are you saying that running that file actually starts the Perfectly Clear plugin (maybe as a standalone program?) or that running that file fixed the problem and now Perfectly Clear runs as a plugin as it should in PSP. To my knowledge, that's a Visual C++ Redistributable file.

I contacted Corel Support about this and they suggested removing all previous versions of PSP (which I had already done) removing PSP 2018, and running the cleanup tool for each of the versions that had been installed (including PSP 2018).

Then reinstall PSP 2018 (being sure to install both the 32 and 64-bit versions), then reinstall the PerfectlyClear plugin. I took the additional step of updating PSP 2018 to version 20.2.0.1 before installing the plugin.

I made copies of all my scripts and batch files as well as saved workspaces before removing PSP 2018.

After doing all this the PerfectlyClear plugin appears to be operating correctly, at least for now.

Hope this helps someone else.

I have the same problem when I send a file from Aftershot Pro 3.
Simply closing PaintShop Pro 2018 and reopening it allows me to open the tif file (in recently used files) and Perfectly Clear SE V3 always works.

Hope this helps

I'm still curious about DD-crash's post and how that apparently cured the issue for him/her. :?:

Hello, I used a file manager to look into the folder that held the plugin and then into the PC plugin folder. I noticed a .exe file (the redist one ) and ran it. Then I went back into PSP and used the plugin dropdown menu and selected perfectly clear, and a new workspace opened up and it worked :)

Thanks for the info. I don't now enough to know why that worked but maybe the knowledge will help others. I can't see how it could hurt for those with the issue to run that executable.
