Hi
I'm about to go on holiday and hope to take some videos with my Panasonic Lumix G3 camera. This offers AVCHD 1920x1080 50i (from 25fps sensor output) or Motion JPEG 1280x720 30fps. The final video will be edited in VideoStudeo X10 and hosted on Youtube or viewed on computer. Which is the preferred capture option? Will the interlacing on AVCHD cause problems or will I need to de-interlace the video using something like Handbrake first? Disk space not an issue.

Many thanks for any advice.
Thanks
Capture format to use with Lumix G3? AVCHD or Motion JPEG?

IMHO you should always capture a video at the high resolution possible under the circumstances as storage is inexpensive and you'll be unlikely to re-video the scenes in higher resolution at a later date. In my case, the minimum capture resolution that I use is AVCHD 1920x1080 @ 60p on my older camera and 4K/UHD (3840 x 2160 @ 30p) on my newer camera.roberts-end wrote:Which is the preferred capture option?
Normally I render my VS videos as 1920x1080 but I have the option of redoing video as 4K if required. Obviously rendering at 4K is more CPU intensive than rendering at 1920x1080 so having capable hardware is important.

Hi Robert
You are best to do a few test recordings, various settings to compare quality, although I doubt you will see much difference
1920 x 1080 x 50i is bog standard blurry, probably using a data rate of 18000kbps ish.
Mjpeg may be more demanding on your pc so you may find avchd easier to handle
The camera also records to avchd 1280 x 720 x 50p
Using progressive for YT. and pc playback would be the better option although no problems in handling 50i using video studio.
I do not think you will need Handbrake
Personally given your target audience as internet I would opt for avchd 1280 x 720 x 50p
Give the three options a test.
Enjoy the holiday.......
