When I try to render a VSP with an audio track, VS10 crashes silently without any message and the program is back on the Share tab as if no rendering was in progress. As there is no error message, you have to keep watching the screen to see the percent of rendering complete when VS10 crashes silently.
Does VS have a log that gives a chain of events leading up to the crash? If not then it's a time consuming process of trial and error to see what file, filter or transition is causing the problem.
Thanks.

Re: VS10 crashes silently
Sorry, but with the information you have provided, it is impossible to even guess what might be the problem. Can you at least tell us if this occurs with each and every project? Or if only one or two projects, what are the Project Properties and properties of (principally) the video clips in the project... And whether you are trying to produce a new video with the same properties as the principal video in the project, or something else...?
I can't say that I am aware of any log file specific to VS -- just anything Windows might register. But perhaps others might have more specific suggestions.

Re: VS10 crashes silently
I find that on the occasions that VS crashes, a .dmp file is created and is located in the DumpStore folder of C: drive (Win 7) not sure where Win 10 would locate it, my laptop does not have a DumpStore folder, anyway it would not be of any use except to Corel support who could decipher the .dmp file

That's fine as I was just trying to see if anyone has experienced this problem. If you haven't seen it then it's a time consuming process of trial and error to see what file, filter or transition is causing the problem.Ken Berry wrote:it is impossible to even guess what might be the problem
In my case it appears to be related to something in the music tracks since if I disable them then the VSP renders fine. So perhaps it's a transition. However, if I disable all tracks save for the music tracks then those render fine so who knows.
In Win10 there is nothing new in the "C:\Users\th\AppData\Local\CrashDumps" folder although there are old "vstudio.exe.xxxx.dmp" files there.RobertOZ wrote:a .dmp file is created and is located in the DumpStore folder
It's too bad that VS doesn't create a readable log file to consult when the program crashes as it routinely does.

Re: VS10 crashes silently
It's my experience that VS has a problem rendering VSP that are reasonably complex and include video, voice and music tracks. In my case, VS frequently crashes silently without any error message when rendering such projects. The solution is to render the video tracks separately from the voice and music tracks and then create a new VSP to render these two separate rendered files together as a single rendered file. It's a waste of time but at least the project can be rendered.

Check out Windows Event Viewer (eventvwr.exe) [right click on Computer, choose Manage, Expand Event Viewer and examine the logs paying attention to the time the 'crash' or error occurred.

Re: VS10 crashes silently
I am experiencing the same issue with a project. Crashes "silently" each time at 53%; the rendering progress bar disappears at 53% and is returned to the state of not having rendered at all. I disabled the music track and rendering made it past the 53% mark - all the way to the 55% mark whereupon it hung and crashed with the normal message "Corel Video Studio has stopped working..."
Without a log file, it will be very difficult to trace back to the offending components(s) - clip, transition, overlay, audio, etc. Any suggestion on how to troubleshoot?

Hi Allen
And welcome to the forums
a little more info required please....
At 55%, what is on the timelines.
How long is your project?
What settings are you selecting to render the project?

Re: VS10 crashes silently
There is nothing in the Event Viewer apropos these silent crashes as the program itself doesn't crash rather it's the rendering process that does.seumas wrote:Check out Windows Event Viewer (eventvwr.exe) [right click on Computer, choose Manage, Expand Event Viewer and examine the logs paying attention to the time the 'crash' or error occurred.
