mp3 format mismatch error message

I recorded an mp3 file to use as a background, and imported it successfully into my slide show. Then I found some pops and other extraneous noise in the recording, so I re-recorded it with the same program. I then tried to replace the original file with the new mp3 file, and pictureShow 3 then complained about a file format mismatch. I did everything the same in both cases. What might be causing the file
mismatch?

Are you sure you reencoded it into MP3 once more? If it's mp3 then there should be no problem with it. If you reencoded it into "Lame" MP3, then this format is usually not supported by PictureShow.

yes, I'm absolutely sure. I got around the problem by converting it all to wav format, editing it all in wav, and reconverting back to mp3, and it finally took. but what a pain.
