As you were inserting a video file, did the crash occur after selecting a particular file.

If you can identify any particular files that are causing this you could use a video converter to create a more editable format.

I didn't get that far, I was only browsing the folder to decide which file to upload

I have now saved the project under a different name and removed all MP4 files, although they are still in the Library. The only files in the project are MTS, JPG, .UVP (painting creator) .swf .VSP
plus title files. There are transitions between each file and all the JPG files have pan & zoom.
When I tried to browse the folder to upload more thumbnails I recreated exactly the same crash, again prior to selecting a file.

As for Apple APS Daemon,(google search shows) that is related to Wifi sync, maybe you have an Iphone or other apple device synced, should not be a problem for VS.
I don't have any Apple devices. This programme appeared after downloading the codecs. If the codecs do not show in my startup programmes, do I in fact have it?
Is there a way to search my computer for codecs?

My apologies for taking up your time.

Hi

View the Start Menu of the pc there should be Quicktime in the menu, but the only options I see is About Quicktime and Uninstall.
You should see the same.
I do not know where the Apple APS Daemon came from, you should be able to uninstall that.

You seem to be having a lot going on within the project, I had assumed just Video MTS and Mp4

Have to rush

Hello,

I looked at the startup files on Task Manager but I can't seem to get a screenshot of this, so I took a photograph.
The attachment P1040041.JPG is no longer available
I can't see Quicktime Codecs anywhere.

Also, if I type Quicktime in the Cortana style searchbox, this what I see.
P1040041.JPG
Is there another way I can look at which codecs are installed?

So many questions, I do apologise.

Hello,

I have now uninstalled Quicktime and reinstalled it, selecting all of the options.

So now I have Quicktime in my startup files and I have enabled it.

I will try my project again and report back.

John
Sorry if things are getting a little complicated

Quicktime Player had a security issue, Apple no longer support QT.
You should uninstall all QickTime and the Apple Push / Apple APS Daemon

View the Youtube video again and install as instructed, just the Codec.

Codecs are not programs so will not show in the start menu
To be honest I do not know where Codecs are saved to, never really needed to know.

Now I would cleanup the program
First I would export my Library go to Settings Library Manager – Export, that saves a copy of my library. I create a folder on my desktop for those files.
Then reset the library, same location, that will set the library as first installed, yes you will loose all your personal pages.

Now try running your project, if you need to insert clips to the timeline, right click the timeline and choose one of the Insert options.

Now if the program still crashes I would re-install

Hi Trevor,

I have done as you requested. Uninstalled everything related to Apple or QuickTime. Downloaded the Essentials as per your video.
Re-started computer.

I have also downloaded a programme called Sherlock (it's just an .exe file) which lists all codecs located on your computer, it found 34 different Codecs but none of them were Apple or Quicktime.
Interestingly it lists a broken codec called VBI Surface Allocator

Undeterred, I pressed on and exported the libraries as per your instructions.
Then I reset the Library. (it took an eon)

I opened up the offending project complete with MP4's and so far, for the last 1/2 hour I have been adding/deleting/titling/etc. without any problems.

Do you think the VBI thing is a problem?

Sadly, I spoke too soon.

Running a preview of the project from the beginning about 30 seconds in I got the same crash.

Only difference this time was that I was unable to close VSX10 and had to revert to Task Manager to 'End Task'

Maybe it's that VBI file?

I am beginning to feel guilty now.

Don't get too upset about VBI Allocator being broken. It is also listed on my computer as being broken, but I don't have any of your own problems with VS as a result.

Sherlock also lists no Apple/Quicktime-related codecs or even has a reference to .mov. But again, I know it is there somewhere. In Video Studio, with a project in the timeline, if you go to Share the default window is the top (Computer) one. It should show a MOV tab and have a dropdown menu of various MOV formats you can choose between. These work (I just tried it) and that indicates clearly you have the QT .mov codec installed... somewhere...!

Tried that.

But before I got that far: -

Unfortunately A problem caused the program to stop Working Correctly, Windows (no Doubt) is searching for a solution.

So I can't answer if the QT codec is installed or not.

Perhaps it's time to move to a different Video programme, sad after all these years.

Hi john

From the windows start menu I see Quicktime listed indicating that the codec is installed.

Before you move on I would do a clear re-install of your program.

It has to be one of your files that is causing the repeated crashes, just difficult to identify which one.

Hello,

Yes, my start menu is exactly the same as the one you show above.

I tried again what Ken suggested and found the MOV option in Share.

I went further and rendered the project successfully.

Strangely this was saved into my Library as a thumbnail 'Untitled.mov'

This file, when loaded onto my video player (I use VLC) plays perfectly.

Which procedure do I follow to do a clear re-install of VSX10, also do I need to uninstall vSX8 and VSX9?

Hi John
Good news that you managed to render the project to a video file.

If you no longer use X8 and X9 and have completed all projects that were started using X8 and x9 then you can uninstall.
If you have ongoing projects then you may be best to create a Smart Package of the project, that will make a copy of all files involved in the project so uninstalling will not affect them, just to be sure.

Uninstalling Video Studio via the Program and Features should be sufficient provided you choose to remove personal data when running the uninstall.
There are other bits installed by the program that you may wish to remove.
After removing the main programs uninstall

BCC Title Studio
Boris Graffiti, maybe a few versions
Video Studio My DVD
If the above do not exist don’t worry.

There is another option to uninstall the main program by using the Cleanup tool
Download versions from here
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=59847

This tool is more effective in cleaning the registry but does not remove personal data.
You should delete the folders here
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems
And folders named 18.0 , 19.0, X10.0 in
C:\Users\Trevor\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro

Then Program and Features to remove the other bits BCC Title Studio etc.

Oh if you wish to keep your Libraries use Settings – Export Library, that will save a copy which can be imported after installing X10
Be aware that the library or the files there may be corrupt causing the crashes, we never found the culprit, so maybe best to start a new clean library.

I would then run the Web Installer choosing to download the program again, choose a different saving folder, that way you should get the latest installation files.
In fact you can do that at any time before uninstalling.

And if you are unsure just ask.

My apologies for not responding sooner to all who helped me on this thread.

For a variety of reasons, I have only just got back to my computer.

The information and procedures given by Trevor have worked to a great degree.

I do find however, that if during the course of a project I leave VSX10 and go to Fast Flick (X10) and create a .VSP file, then later insert this into the timeline of the VSX10 project, then the project crashes.

Not always but most times.

I think I will upgrade to 2018 to see if the problem has been sorted.

John
