VSX10 Ultra Problems

Post by john4647 »

Downloaded VSX10 Ultra last week, I finally gave in to all the ads.

However, it seems to be very unstable when compared with 8 or 9.

Program stops and I get the box in the centre of the screen which says " Corel Video Studio has stopped working" "A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program etc etc."

Is there stability issue? I didn't have this problem with VSX9

Hi john4647

Sorry to hear of your stability problems.

Do not have any here, there are other issues, but stability is not one of them.

Think we need more info to try and help identify potential problems. Your choice, give us more details and we'll try to guess our way to an answer together.

Hello, thanks for the reply.

I am not sure I can give any more details. The program 'stops working' at various intervals during editing. My current project is currently around the 20 minute mark and is a mix of video clips, still images, titles and transitions. Also a couple of FastFlick .VSP files in the timeline. No extra sound tracks.

I am not using any other special effects.
I did not have a problem with VSX8 or VSX9.

When re-opening VSX10 after a 'stopped working' message, I get the option to recover the previous file but this usually does not include the last edit.

Please let me know what other information may help.

Hi John

Rolling my metaphorical sleeves up here - ready for action!

OK, you say the program stops working at various intervals when you are editing - can you give an example of what you are doing (or trying to achieve) when it stops working? The only instability I have with both X9 & X10 is when I use Flying Transitions between stills, both programs freeze. This is very frustrating, so I appreciate your question.

Again, you say you did not have any problems with X9. Before editing in X10 can you save the timeline to an X9 vsp version. Pull that into X9, try doing the exact same edit that causes the X10 "crash", does X9 crash?

Can you upload the offending X10 vsp and accompanying clips so we can try the same editing on our setups? You may have to use a Cloud based server to give you enough head room.

What are the properties of the clips on the timeline?

Is the X9 version the 32 bit or 64 bit version? I cannot recall if X10 has a 32 bit version, my files only show 64 bit, but please confirm which version of X10 you are using.

What are the project properties?

Johny, why didn't you add a Flying test vsp so we can also freeze our VS's

It could be a transition problem, I recall at least 2 occasions when this was the case, I think I need to record exactly what I am doing when the crash occurs

Again, you say you did not have any problems with X9. Before editing in X10 can you save the timeline to an X9 vsp version. Pull that into X9, try doing the exact same edit that causes the X10 "crash", does X9 crash?
I will try this.

I will look into this, I currently don't use the cloud

What are the properties of the clips on the timeline?
Not sure what you mean by this, the clips are MP4,s, VSP,s JPG, GIF etc. plus transitions

Is the X9 version the 32 bit or 64 bit version? I cannot recall if X10 has a 32 bit version, my files only show 64 bit, but please confirm which version of X10 you are using.
64 bit

Not sure what you mean by this

Just had another crash.

This time I was not even editing although I had the file open to do so.

I had decided to download the extra titles etc. which are available if you press the orange button. I downloaded the first two without problem but only managed to get halfway through the the third.

I have taken screenshots of the last two times VSX10 crashed.
The attachment Image6a.jpg is no longer available

Hi John

No experts around here, they all come from the next village (lata and Ken excepted).

Clip properties - especially video/audio clips are best reported by an independent program such as MediaInfo (tree view). You can find/download from the web. (VS can also give an indication by selecting a clip and right clicking, choose Properties)

https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

Looking for unusual properties such as very high/low bitrates, variable frame rates, unusual codecs etc.

Are stills (photographs/graphics) jpg, bitmap, png, tiff, psd or what? - I see you note gif & jpg.

Audio - mp3, wav or what?

Project Properties - go to Share(tab) > tick the box next to Same as Project Settings (may have to use the drop down menu to select this option), the Project Properties are then listed in the box titled "Project Properties".

What transitions are you using, because as stated in my original post the Flying versions give my system a lot of problems. (Asik1 thinks they are cheesy, I agree, but I like them!)

I'll leave you to report on the other elements you said you would try. It would be helpful if you could give us an example of a crashing vsp. I was wary of the cloud way to disseminate examples, lata gave me guidance on this. I think a search of this forum should give instructions.

John

(ps Asik1 - will not highjack this thread with my freezing problems, I'll try to find an example to attach to a new thread)

The Little Thomas Mountain Road.MP4 clip has a red icon at the beginning of the clip, do you know what the icon signifies? Very interested to see the MediaInfo property information for that clip.

Hello,

I will try this.

Not sure how to save the project as an X9 VSP.

I tried opening X9 and loading the file I was working on in X10 but it won't load, just does nothing.

The project properties are listed below.

Thanks again.

Withe project open in the timeline, go to File > Save As. The dialogue box will open, and the first box will ask you to give the project a name. Below that box, though, is another one labelled "Save as type". By default it will show the version of the VS you are using e.g. Corel VideoStudio X10 Project Files (.VSP). But if you click the downward point arrow beside that, you will see that it also allows you to choose the two versions of VS immediately preceding the one you are using. So in this case you would see X9 and X8. Choose X9. Then open that project file in X9.

Without this, project files from later versions of VS cannot be opened in earlier versions.
