Mura's Meister Plugin

Post by SusanMM »

I mentioned in another post that after a long time away (7 years almost), I'm getting back into PSP and purchased 2018. I am beginning to regret my decision LOL. Wish I still had all my older versions. My life would be complete and with no frustrations.

I'm just wondering/hoping/praying that someone is familiar with or has heard of any type of plugin that works like the Mira's Meister "Copies" filter. My kingdom will be yours.

I have several Mura filters including Copies. They cause PSP (X7 thru 2018) to crash. I tried running the filters through FM Patcher and get a popup telling me that Patcher cannot open them. So I can't process them through the patcher either.

@hartpaul, if that's Copies, how did you get it to work - i.e., how did you get it to open in FM Patcher? My Copies .8bf file is 160kb. Because I can't get it to work I can't tell you if it is version 1.3 like yours is. My FM Patcher is v. 1.01 and came with an installer. It has to be run as Administrator to run it.

JoeB, may I ask you to direct me to FM Patcher, please. But then, you're saying you still can't get it to work, so I have no idea what is going on here.

Hartpaul, this is sooo insane to me. It looks like from your path (to the plugin directory) that you are working from the 64 bit version, but you'll recall my earlier post that I couldn't get them to show up in the 64 bit, so with yours and Ken Berry responses, I decided to install them into the 32 bit plugin directory and work from there instead of the 64 bit version of the program.

They showed up and a couple of them work fine, but the Copies is one that doesn't work. It crashes PSP upon attempt to engage the filter. I click on it, and PSP closes.

So pleeeeaaase tell me how you got it to work.

Thanks again for your help.

FM Patcher is here:

http://www.filtermeister.com/fmpatcher/index.htm

Let me know if you can get it to work. And let me know the file size of your Copies filter so I can compare that to mine.

Thanks - works great! AND I fixed the problem of patching the Mura files. First I changed the permissions of all of them, unchecking Read Only and giving full permission to every user, System, etc. that was available. Then I did the same with FM Patcher. Now I can open FM Patcher without being prompted to elevate its permissions rights and it opens and processes the Mura .8bf files I have. It was the fact that FM Patcher wouldn't run without elevated permissions that made me think to check out the properties and attributes of both FM Patcher and the Mura filter files and then make changes. I really only had to uncheck the Read Only attribute on the filter files to make it work (obviously the patcher couldn't patch a Read Only file) but while I was there I figured I might as well go all out! :-)

hartpaul -- thanks from me as well. It's working well in PSP 2018 x86. Interestingly enough, I also installed it in my old version of Photoshop. It appeared to work, but then froze the whole program full screen, and I could not close or even invoke Task Manager to do so. I had to resort to the old tried and true Ctrl+Alt+Delete!

Glad it worked! I don't know why the MM files had all defaulted to Read Only, maybe a result of copying them from one computer and pasting them into another computer but don't really know. Can only hope that if others have patching issues they will find this thread and check out the attributes of their files.

I have found this site after an extensive search to get Mura Meister to work in PSP X18 and Widows 10.
The link for Mura Meister Copies that was posted here worked great. Thank you. None of the others do. You said it had something to do with the "Read Only"
I don't understand what that is or how to change it. Can you please explain? I'm a senior and have always used PSP9 and windows xp and later, windows 7.
I don't understand computers at all. I would appreciate anything you can do to help me.

The computer operating system (Windows 10 in your case) has methods to protect files from becoming corrupted or otherwise made unusable through being edited or changed by the computer user or perhaps malware/viruses. If users (or malware) were allowed modify or write information to the file that could cause issues.

One way the system prevents this from happening is to mark a file as Read Only. This means that the computer can read the file and execute it so that it performs its task but the computer and computer users cannot make any changes to the file. But you can change that attribute. Use Windows Explorer to go to the folder containing the files (a previous post explains where the Mura Meister files are but this applies to most files). Right click on a file and, in the context menu that opens, go to the bottom and click on Properties. This will open a Properties window. Near the bottom of that window you'll see Attributes: Read Only and Hidden. If Read Only is checked then the file can't be modified. Click in the box and that will remove the checkmark so that the file can now be written to or changed.

I’ll look for it and try what you suggested. I’m always very scared to change anything for fear of making things worse.

It's not something you normally have to be concerned with. However, in the case of those of us who needed to use the FM Patcher to get the Mura Meister plugin files to work we had to remove the Read Only attribute because the patcher, obvkously, had to patch - or fix - some properties of those files to make them work with our newer PSP's. And there may be times when you receive a text file or similar document that you need to edit and that you find you are unable to do so. That's a circumstance when you will want to check the properties of that file and, if Read Only is checked, then you have to uncheck it or you may be unable to save your edited file.
