Re: Both side justification for text
You can start with a transparent layer and then you won't have to remove the white background.

Re: Both side justification for text
The layer is automatically transparent, but the capturing square/rectangle, bonds to the text that justifies in it and then it is much effort to get it out.
I have played with making it transparent over the bigger transparent layer, but I can't get it right. Will try till I get tired.
At least when my book go in for publication, and I still have not mastered it, I can go to Photoshop.

Re: Both side justification for text
What if you use a rectangular selection tool instead of a preset shape?

Re: Both side justification for text
Modification to my previous steps.
1. Preset Shapes tool select triangle Stroke 8 pixels and fill transparent and draw on a 1000 x 1000 pixel transparent document.
2. Magic wand , contiguous, select inside of triangle.
3. Copied some text from a wordpad document to the clipboard.
4. Text tool - fill color black, font Arial , 36 pixels .
4a. Make the bottom transparent layer active .
5. Click inside the triangle and Control V to paste with left justification chosen.
6. Click on Force Justify
7. Selections > Select none
8. Click the visibility toggle to turn the visibility of the triangle off. Merge Visible, Delete the triangle layer and you will have the text on a transparent layer which can then be pasted as a new layer on your book background. I have used a triangle rather than a rectangle to show that the text can be formatted to fit any shape on a book background with text is a space and the rest of the picture visible outside the text.

Re: Both side justification for text
Thank you HartPaul, I will study and do.
I am not familiar with all the terms as I worked on my own for years.
Thanks again. Will keep up to date.

Re: Both side justification for text
I just couldn't duplicate your process. However you step 4a refers to an additional layer. So I repeated the excercise, but I added an additional vector layer in between. Then it worked.hartpaul wrote:Modification to my previous steps.

I think I will just do this step over and over until I am tired to remember. If I don't add the additional layer, the text copy into the the selection, but just one line, and 90% are out of the selection to the right, out of the display and there is no way of getting it to justify inside the selection.
Is there a way to select the vector text, which is justified, as a floating selection, so that I can add effects with a filter?
Thanks for your assistance.

Re: Both side justification for text
By making the bottom transparent raster layer active and then choosing the text tool and clicking on that raster layer it automatically creates the vector layer that you have done .I just couldn't duplicate your process. However you step 4a refers to an additional layer. So I repeated the excercise, but I added an additional vector layer in between. Then it worked.
Why do you need it as a floating selection? Is there a way to select the vector text, which is justified, as a floating selection, so that I can add effects with a filter?
You can hide the top layer (triangle) or even delete it, and also do Selections > Select None.
In the layers palette beside the left side of the vector layer with the text on it is a small white arrow, click it and a drop down layer will appear with your text lines. Double click that and you get back into edit mode for your text (cursor shows at the start of your text). Hit Control A and all the text will be selected. Double click the vector layer above it and you get the Layer Properties dialog and the third tab allows you to apply some layer effects.
If you need to use some other filters I think you first have to convert the vector layer to a raster layer and then you can do all the filter effects you like.

Thank you Hartpaul, I will try that.
