Both side justification for text
I have just bought PSP 2018 Ultimate because of the justification feature.
I want to add a paragraph of text over a layer in designing the back cover page of my book.
No matter what I try, I cannot manage to get the text to justify on both sides. Only Left, Centre or Right.
Can someone just point me in the right direction?

Re: Both side justification for text
What do you mean exactly? Do you not see the Justify and Force Justify buttons next to right, left, and center? Or do they not behave as you expect? Different solutions for different problems.
If the buttons aren't showing then you may need to do a full reset of the workspace.
However, if they are showing then you need to make sure you have text wrapping for it to work. By default PSP doesn't have a set text box to define the total width of the text. So justifying text that doesn't have a set maximum width is a bit annoying. Do-able but annoying as it has to be re-calculated every time a new line gets wider than the previously largest line. So rather than do that they tied the justify options to text wrapping.
To setup text wrapping add either a vector shape or selection to the canvas. Then grab the text tool and click inside that vector object or selection. the cursor should look like [T] when you click. this sets the shape or selection as the maximum width of the text and then the justify options will work. Word of warning, however, once you've set the text to be automatically wrapped you have to move the vector object its attached to in order to move it around the screen. The text itself is forever tied to that object.

Re: Both side justification for text
They donot behave as expected.
I am a seasoned user of PSP, but never worked with text wrapping before.
Guess it is back to the classroom to check out what you said.
I expected it to behave like justification in Word, but it didn't.
I am slowly using PSP more than CS6

Re: Both side justification for text
jcrous, the term you're looking for is "Full Justification" & as far as I can tell PSP does not have that - just Left, Center & Right justification. I'm using ver. X8 so someone familiar with ver. 2018 may have a different answer for you.

TimW, Justification was added in 2018 along with superscript an subscript.

Re: Both side justification for text
LeviFiction, My PSP X8 has Left, Right & Center justification but does not have Superscript or Subscript. Super & Sub was added in later versions.

I believe that's exactly what LeviFiction said - i.e., they were all (including full justification) added in PSP2018.TimW wrote:LeviFiction, My PSP X8 has Left, Right & Center justification but does not have Superscript or Subscript. Super & Sub was added in later versions.

Re: Both side justification for text
To be able to select a piece of text, for example a paragraph iside a square or rectangular selection, is suppose to be able to be justified that both sides, left and right be justified that on both sides the lines of texts start and end equally obove each other.
But the full justification button does not behave by doing it. Only left, right or centre. The full doesn't work
What am I doing wrong? I upgraded to 2018, for this purpise, but it doesn't work.

Re: Both side justification for text
As I said in my first post, you need to use text wrapping in order to use the Justified option. Here is a video.

Re: Both side justification for text
When the suggestion to use text wrapping was mentioned earlier I became confused because I looked around for a text wrapping option that I would be able to invoke if I was going to use text inside of an object or rectangle, but there is no such thing. As I understand it now - having followed the video - it is something that invokes itself when text is being applied inside of an object. That is, it is an inherent feature of applying text inside of an object, not a function of its own like it is in my text editor.LeviFiction wrote:As I said in my first post, you need to use text wrapping in order to use the Justified option. Re: Both side justification for text
Thank you very much. Now it makes sense an I feel better. I am now at ease. There is one other issue on which I would like to battle first before I say it is not working. Re: Both side justification for text
This is what I am getting after these steps:
1. Preset Shapes tool select triangle Stroke 8 pixels and fill transparent and draw on a 1000 x 1000 pixel document.
2. Magic wand , contiguous, select inside of triangle.
3. Copied some text from a wordpad document to the clipboard.
4. Text tool - fill color black, font Arial , 36 pixels .
5. Click inside the triangle and Control V to paste with left justification chosen.
6. Click on Force Justify

Re: Both side justification for text
@hartpaul,
Your left justify image looks as I would expect it to look given the text you are using. The first word on each line wouldn't fit in the space available on the line above, so you're going to get white space on the right as those first words wrap down to the next line.
Your Force Justify image is somewhat more complicated. In an actual Justify situation you would expect that the justification would space the letters within each word AND the spaces between the words in some type of proportional manner to make the overall appearance more natural. But that doesn't seem to happen. In other words, in your example the justification is only done by adding more blank spaces between the words, but no justification re-spacing is done between the letters comprising the words.
Perhaps my understanding of how justification of text is supposed to work is incorrect. I would have to see how it works in a similar situation in other programs like MS Word, my ebook reader, etc., to become more informed. But that's what I'm seeing from your examples at present.

Re: Both side justification for text
According to the help documents
How they determine when inter-character spacing is required and when it's not I have no idea.- Justify extends the text to the edges of the text, without changing inter-character spacing
- Force Justify extends the text to the edges of the text box, including the last line by adjusting inter-character spacing if required

Re: Both side justification for text
I have played with the tutorial and I got it right. I first had to adjust my kernel to zero again.
I only worked with rater layers before and placed text as floating over a transparent layer, and then I added effect filters.
With your example it is vector layers, of wich I used white and black as your tutorial.
I just can't get the white background to dissapear. I want to place text over images for my books back cover pages.
