Please Help. PSP 2018 Problem with Plugins

Post by SusanMM »

Hi everyone. Thanks soo much if you can help me out with this.

Windows 8.1
PSP 2018

I installed all 10 of the plugin dll files into System, System32, and SysWow. I placed several plugins into the plugin folder by following the folder's path indicated in preferences. None of the plugins show up.

I created a new folder of plugins and placed them all into there, then had plugin preferences point to that directory. None of the plugins show up.

I've been away from PSP for a long while and purchased the recent version but as far as I recall (and according to the instructions of one of the plugins), all you have to do is place/paste or extract the plugins to the plugin folder, as in there is no method for actually installing them because there is no installer. Am I correct?

So, it's been so long that I figured I must have forgotten, so I went looking for a tutorial on installing plugins. I found the Corel instructions that instructs you to install the Nik plugins, and I did that. I installed it to the plugin directory that I created, and Nik is the only plugin that shows up. But then Nik had an installer procedure - an executable program.

I am wondering if there are new dll files that PSP 2018 requires. Or if someone could help with other solutions. I really appreciate it

Can you please list which plugins you are having trouble with as that way people that have them working successfully may then be able to tell you what works and how and where to place the files.

Can you also indicate whether you are using the 64 bit version of PSP, and if your plug-ins are all or mostly 32 bit? If the latter, then of course nothing you do -- apart from using PSP 32 bit -- will show the 32 bit plug-ins.

Hartpaul and Ken, thank you both so much. Your questions helped to a solution.

Hartpaul, the plugins are Fun House, Flaming Pear, GregsFilters, and a couple others - all of which are much older, like 10 years or more. I was afraid that might be part of the problem, so your question made me consider it more in depth.

Ken, your question did the same, so I looked at both paths in preferences of the 32 bit application and placed the plugins into the second path.

And there they are!!!

Thank you now. All the right questions lead me in the right direction. You guys are AWESOME.

If you don't use 64-bit plugins, you will need to have the 32-bit version of 2018 installed as well.
If you haven't, remove your current version with the cleanup tool, which you can download here on this forum: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=52337
* Install PSP 2018 in both 32-bit and 64-bit
* Open the 32-bit version of 2018 and point it to the folders where your plugins are. Don't forget to point to folders where installation plugins, such as Filters Unlimited 2.0, are.
* Make sure that you have all the boxes ticked in the File Preferences > File locations > Plugins
ZV_insteekfilterlocatie.JPG
Example is in Dutch, but I'm sure you recognise the menu. :D

You allready put the dll-files in the correct folders, so nothing to do there.

Bear in mind that there are quite a few plugins that are just too old to be able to work now with your Windows 8 Pro and PSP 2018. However, import as many Filter Factory plugins into Filters Unlimted as you can, as FU works fine under higher Windows version and PSP 2018.

Quite a few plugin sites have gone offline, but you can still download free ones from
* The Plugin Site.
I have a list on my website with links to free plugin sites.
You can find the page
* Here

Again, be prepaired to say your final farewell to a few plugins of old.

Zantara, looks like I posted while you were composing. Sorry to put you through all that, but you were still very helpful. I had both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions installed so as you can see, I went fiddling around in the 32 bit one. I was using the 64 bit for better memory management and will have to just use the 32 bit, but I'm sure I will get over it and continue breathing. LOL

Thanks for your help and the useful information. I'll go play in your list of plugins and hopefully find some others I've been looking for....and hopefully they all still function in the new application.
Thanks again.

Susan, you're very welcome. Maybe someone else can use my post.
BTW, there are quite a few 64-bit plugins on the market now from well known plugin writers:
* Abstract Curves (demo, but very workable)
* Auto FX
* Harry's Filters
* Mehdi
* Redfield Plugins
* Richard Roseman
* Xero published a 64-bit version of most of their plugins, before they went offline. You can download them Here
All links checked for this post.

Furthermore:

The FunHouse filter can be imported into Filters Unlimited, so you don't have to go without that one.
Greg's Factory output can also be imported into FU
That's two saved. :D
Flaming Pear Flood and Superblade Pro still work on my system (Windows 10 without Fall Creators update and PSP 2018)

Snap, Zantara. I downloaded MuraMeister and much to my dismay, the Copies filter crashes the program. So funny that the other filters (tried 3 others) work just fine. I want to cry. LOL

Thank you for all your help and the link to your plugin list.
