I haven't used X8 for a while except for the manage tab, but I came across something strange when testing the scripting problem I had. First I reset X8 using the shift key. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled it, although I didn't zapp it and I didn't allow it to remove my personal files.
Inner Bevel.
Drop Shadow.
The preview option doesn't work, and I can't resize or stretch the boxes. All other dialog boxes work as expected.
Sorry. I thought you were referring to preview on image which you have ticked. I am using PSP X8 version 18. 2. 0. 61. My preview works in both 32 and 64 bit versions.
That is very unusual if only those dialog boxes do not work for you.
Does it happen in other versions of PSP that you have or only PSP X8.
What version is your PSP X8? Do you have all the updates installed?
For me PSP X8 was a failure as it stuffed up the Save dialog options for operations with multiple images defaulting .
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867
I was referring to preview that is visible on both images. It's not clickable. It's like the boxes are frozen, but I can tab through the options on the drop shadow box and change them blindly which is not helpful. I can see all the options on inner bevel and change them manually but I have dozens of saved presets that I can't even see.
These are the only dialog boxes that don't work in this program on this computer; it is not present on my desktop computer or in any other version of PSP on this computer. Version number is 18.2.0.61. It's obviously something unique to this computer but I was hoping that someone else might have had this issue and knew how to fix it. I'm going to download the zapper and try reinstalling it again.
Yes it seems that all laptops are not the same.
I have three Toshiba Laptops and have used a program called BSR Screen recorder. All including the desktop have windows 10 updated and using the Anniversary edition - 1607. I have been resisting the upgrade to the Creators update 1703.
On two of the older laptops and the desktop it works perfectly, but the newest laptop has a touch screen and graphics are handled a little differently so that when I try and define an area it is as if the screen has zoomed in a little and try as i might I cannot get the screen recording the area I want as it reverts back the smaller normal version when I try to record.

I have my dialog boxes back; I uninstalled X8 then used the cleanup program from the link posted here. I guess I should have done that from the beginning but I have never had to use that before with any version of PSP.
I'm back with this same issue with PSP 2018 this time. It's on the buttonize dialog box now.
I wonder if a failing hard drive could cause this problem with PSP and no other program. I have a failing SSD according to a disk monitor program, only 1% life left. I have a replacement drive and have cloned the failing one; I just need to take it to Best Buy or somewhere to have it installed since I can't get the screws out of the drive enclosure. I don't have issues with other programs and this SSD end of life was found accidentally when running the drive monitor to check the status of an external drive.
I have to say, that after using PSP 7 for years, and actually preferring it to PhotoShop, I am a little disappointed. Expected 2018 to be like PSP 7 but with more features. It's got more features - but the program itself is very buggy and runs incredibly slowly. I need to find my PSP 7 installation disk .....
That's the problem I have. I just got the drive replaced but the dialog box issue is still there. So the hardware problem was not the cause. I'm going to go back to X9 because I'm really tired of this. Depending on which OS you have, I'm not sure you can get PSP 7 to install. Good luck; it was a good program, I also used it for years.
I have tested all of the dialogues you mentioned and more in X8 and 2018 and, like Hartpaul, don't have your issue. As he pointed out, though, different laptops definitely have different quirks. I work on a desktop so don't have screen quirk issues with any programs, and it seems to me that it is some quirky screen issue that you are having with which some PSP versions are not compatible with. I suspect it's some type of scaling incompatibility, and may (or may not) have something to do with any custom settings you might have done with your operating system's display options - e.g., text size, resolution, etc. It definitely isn't an issue that we have seen a plethora of complaints about and I suspect that those few complaints we have seen are also from those using laptops.
Joe, you have found the problem and the solution. This laptop monitor has a native resolution of 1900 X 1080 and that's really small. I had set it in the display settings to be 125% of that. When I put it back to normal, the dialog boxes also went back to normal. Thank you, I didn't make the connection between the two.

No problem and glad it helped. I was carefully reading this thread today and the scaling issue is the first one that caught my eye after seeing your pics. I have seen other complaints about palettes not sizing properly that were usually caused by the same type of thing.
Well .... I thought it was that too. My native laptop resolution is 3840 x 2160, which makes text completely unreadable, so I set the scaling to 250% (the recommended setting).
However - tried setting the scaling back to 100% and it made no difference. The dialog box was now *small* and wrong!
