Clip visible in timeline but can't select it
My MSP7 project has got into a state where as soon as I edit any clip it becomes semi-invisible - eg it paints on the timeline but it can't be selected - it isn't in the 'Find clip' list and the menu on the timeline indicates that MSP thinks there's nothing there - but when I preview the project it clearly is. I've updated to SP3 and also tried copying/pasting the entire project into a new project, but the fault comes with it to the new project!
I can find no way of retrieving my hours of editing on a project that had just reached 'take 1' status and needs the smallest of tweaks to complete - very frustrating!
The project seemed to work fine until a put titles in it - the 90 second rolling title seems to have been the death knell - but this may just be coincidence.
Anyone else encountered this? - and if so is there a way to retrieve the project? Any tips most welcome.

Can you remove the title? If so, does it restore things as they ought? If not, just wait, a LONG time while the system thinks. Do you have a pre-adding-the-title backup?
The titler is one of the weak parts of MSP7, especially for a 90 second rolling title, which will take many hours to render.
I suggest you may find it better to use a graphics app (e.g. PI10 or Corel Draw!) to use to generate the rolling credits file and use Moving Path to scroll it. You may be better splitting it into several pieces. If you have a transparent background, you can overlay it over any video or still, by importing it as a TGA file, or you can colour key it.

This happens a lot with my projects. I don't know what causes it.
As soon as you notice it, go back to your last save. If it's there too, close MSP and reboot, then start a new project. Put a colour clip or a silence clip on the timeline - anything to get the project out of its "virgin" state.
Then go to "Insert" "Project" and add your project with the ghosties to the timeline. This is the reason you need to "dirty" the new project: If it's completely clear, then Insert Project just opens the project, rather than starting afresh.
Delete the ambiguous colour/silence (or whatever) clip and then save to a new name (don't overwrite).
Let us know how you get on.

Ghosties
Thanks for the replies guys but so far no joy... I inserted the project into a new 'dirty' project as suggested and the clips came in in their semi-zombie state already - eg I can select them just fine the first time, but any edit turns them into 'ghosties' (I think this should become an official technical term).
I'm surprised that something as glaring and basic as this is still in the software when the features are astonishingly rich in other directions!
I'll try a few more 'nudges' to see if I can get them back into the land of the living...

Have you tried removing the title clip from the timeline, as I suggested above?

Have tried opening the project, deleting the rolling titles and immediately saving. Then restarted MSP and opened the project - and no difference!
I did however give one duff bit of information. The error sequence is as follows:
1. Open project
2. Select clip
3. Edit it (eg scissors in the middle)
4. Clip is now visible on the timeline (split) but neither part is selectable, and the clip does not play in the preview.
Anyway I've learned how to use 'Insert Project'...

Have found a workaround that at least got me as far as finishing the project.
I had previously split the audio from a track where I wasn't using it and deleted the audio clips (for no better reason than tidiness). I discovered that if I used my one select that worked after opening the project to 'expand' a clip, I recovered the audio clip. The audio clip was then selectable and could be used to drag the clip to another video track where it was fully selectable and editable. The ghostie was still on Vb but doing no harm.
I cut my losses and did the absolute minimum to put this project to bed! Hope this tip might help others in the same situation...

I also have the same problem I think in nearly each project for one time.
My workaround is followes:
I select the clips left from the ghosties and copy them in a new project, then I select the clips right from the ghosties and copy them in the same way.
I did it right yesterday - but I have no roller titles I'm in a very early status of the project I did only about 100 cuts and about 10 transitions.
I also wonder how can a software like MSP after years in life have such bugs.
Iwill wait with buying MSP 8
Many Greetings
Walter

Creating a ghost
I've got my project into a situation where it's possible to create a ghost clip!
I have clip on V4, which I want to scissor and put both halves onto V1. I can scissor the clip, and move the two halves around freely on V3 or higher. As soon as I put either half onto V1, it becomes a ghost.
Is this something that's been fixed in V8? If not, a project where the problem is reproducible might be handy for Ulead...

Have sent a project to ULead Tech Support that includes a ghostie. Helpful and quick reply from support, and the project sent on to the development guys - however as a software engineer myself I would guess they're up to their necks polishing MSP8 and aren't likely to be too interested in something that almost certainly is already fixed....
