VideoStudio x9 multi-trim video

Post by Bettyboop44 »

Hi
Firstly thanks for letting me join your forum .
This is the first time I am using VideoStudio x9 , ( I have normaly been using PS ) any way I have a Video (.mov) I made on iphone and I have transfered it to my PC , it is about 2 GB in size and I need to reduce it .

I made a folder in VS and imported the video clip to it , then I dragged it into the time line , then right clicked and I choose multi-trim video , so far so good , then I edited the video segements using the mark in and mark out .
So ended up with 4 sets of clips that I marked out , prob halved the original video , then I clicked ok at the bottom , the question is were has the edited clips gone , can't find the multi-trim edited clip anywere , I looked in the folder from were I imported the video from but only the 2GB .mov file is there , looked in the folder I just made but only the original video is showing , in the multi-trim window there is no file button to save as or whatever only the OK button at the bottom .
I am pulling my hair out here .

Hi BB

And welcome to the forums

When we edit using Video Studio the original files, your 2 gb file remains in tact.
The program works with virtual clips, similar to viewing thumbnails.
If we cut the clip and remove sections then only the timeline shows that.

After you close the Multi Trim you are taken back to the timeline, your clip should now be in several piece, you seem to indicate 4.
The timeline shows the video as continues frames so may look like one clip.
Click on the clip and it will show selected by the yellow trim handles and dotted lines.

I do not use Multi Trim that much but prefer to cut my clip on the timeline using the scissors, I can cut a few times to remove/segregate frames, then simply delete the unwanted frames/clips
Just what the multi Trim did, but done on the timeline.

Ok if you switch to Storyboard view each clip section will show as a separate thumbnail.

Once you have removed all unwanted frames, added titles etc. we go to the Share tab where we convert / render the project to a new video file, again your original video remains in tact.
shows the 4 clips within Multi Trim, click image for larger view
shows the 4 clips within Multi Trim, click image for larger view
Shows same cut clips on timeline, click image for larger view

You are working with virtual clips within the project, from File Save As will save the project as a VSP (Video Studio Project), it is this small file that saves all the cuts and edits you apply to your video / project.
You can return to this project at any time to continue editing. File -- Open project

When you go to Share, there will be an option at the top for Same as Project, place a tick in the box to Activate, then change to Same as first Clip, if that option is available will render the project using the original video file s properties.

Ok this may sum up how to cut the timelines and remove sections.

From the timelines
Assuming I wish to remove the first 4 seconds of my video.

Play the video to the point I wish to remove, do one of two things.
1 / Pressing Mark In brackets or F3 will remove frames from the begging, F4 Mark Out will remove the end frames.
2 / Use the scissors to cut the clip, we now have 2 clips, Select the first clip and Delete

3 / To remove frames from the middle of our clip, make a cut at the start of our selection, then treat as above.
Or make two cuts to isolate the unwanted frames and delete the clip.

The above is the same as using Multi Trim but preformed on the timelines.
