Hi
Firstly thanks for letting me join your forum .
I have a old Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 program that has been on my other pc for quite a long time , I have only just started to use it to do some video editing and youtube screen capture , the problem I am getting is with the screen capture , everytime I press the Red record button I get a , " Prepare Record Failed #15 " .
I can not think what the problem is with it , everything else works fine with the video editing .
regards
Spike

Issues with screen capture can be very difficult to identify, first thing I would suggest, is to make sure your audio setting are set to stereo and not surround sound

Hi Spike
Same problem using X6
All other versions from X7 onwards work ok
I wonder if it’s a 32bit v 64bit issue? X6 is 32 bit.
I do not think that VS screen capture will create a good quality video from YT
You are best downloading the video rather than using Screen Capture.

Trevor is correct, VS Screen Capture is not the best medium to capture from YT.
If you use Firefox as your browser, you can download dwhelper, a free capture program
I believe there is a version suitable for Chrome.

Re: Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 Screen capture problem
I use the Corel screen capture tool regularly - pretty much the most used after VS itself. And there are 3 main issues with downloading clips from YT (assumed YouTube):
1. unless you customise the capture, you will get everything on the browser screen - and 80% of it is useless ads/other gumpf. Stationary (non-moving) images you have no interest in. What you want is the clip being presented in the YT preview window.
2. The clip format may have been mp4 on upload, but if you watched the process, at the end of it there's a notice saying 'processing', and that is mostly a format change by YT so the clip can be downloaded and displayed readily in the browser YT window on an 'any quality' internet link without the jerks, stops and starts that would be inherent in a full-blown hi-res file download on such a link. When that's happening it really isn't mp4: more specifically, it is not hi res.
3. the small preview window size. Here, small size means a not great resolution clip looks OK. Capture any clip in it without any of the ads etc and then play the result on a larger computer or home TV hi res screen, and it does indeed look somewhat washed out.
Unfortunately that's the way any YT capture is. I live with it because of the access to such a wide variety of material.

Re: Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 Screen capture problem
That's the benefit of dwhelper, it only records the actual video, not all the other crap that normally displays, it only downloads the source video, I have used it for a number of years now, never had a problem with it, if the video is HD it will download in HD, you have the option to specify the download format

Re: Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 Screen capture problem
I ran dwhelper on Firefox for a while, a year or so ago. Managing the interface and getting it working was a challenge, so when the VS screen capture tool proved to be so useful/effective, I stopped using the other one.
