Overview not zooming properly in PSP 2018

I have both PSP IX Ultimate and now PSP 2018. When I open Overview (F9) and zoom in on my image to larger than fit to window, what was a square in PSP IX is now a rectangle and when I move the rectange in overview it is not showing the actual corresponding area on the image.

What exactly does show -- or how far out is the corresponding preview -- when you move the preview outline? I ask because it seems to work as advertised, albeit now with a rectangle, at least in my PSP 2018. Ditto with X9, which is what I am assuming you mean by PSP IX...

In PSP IX Ultimate, when you have Overview open and you make your zoom your image to larger than what fits the page, a small square appears which shows the area of the image you are actually looking at, and as you zoom more the square becomes smaller: all fine there. When you put your cursor on the square and drag it about it moves you to the corresponding area of the zoomed image. But with my new PSP 2018 Ultimate when I zoom the image instead of a square I get a rectangle BUT more importantly the area within the rectangle does not correspond to the area in the image. Like this: I make a blank 1200 x 1200 pix canvas and paint a 300 x 300 circle in the centre. When I zoom in on the image to, say, 2000 X but keeping the circle of the image in the centre, the rectangle doesn't show it on the circle at all. It is definitely bizarre.

Not sure what you mean by PSP IX Ultimate. IX is the Roman Numeral for 9 so are you referring to Jasc PSP 9? Or are you referring to Corel PSP X9? Ultimate has no bearing on the product itself and only refers to the additional software that is bundled with PSP.

Like Ken, what I can confirm is that in both PSP X9 and PSP 2018 I see a rectangle on the Overview Palette when zoomed in and when I drag the rectangle around it shows the appropriate section of the image.

I can't check Jasc PSP 9 as I don't have it installed.

You could always try resetting the program to default as that will often times correct errors. Here are the instructions. They refer to PSP X6 but work for all versions.

As others have mentioned there is no version of PSP labelled IX. The versions were labelled up to 9 (Jasc) and then continued X (version 10) , X1 (version 11) , X2 (Version 12) to X9 (19) and then 2018 (20).
In Jasc version 8 the Overview shows the cursor position as a rectangle , never a square.
I did your 1200 x 1200 image with a 300 pixel in the middle and then zoomed in to 2000%. Still a square. Still shows in correct position.
I get the same appearance in PSP 2018

Much to my surprise, after restoring the database the resetting Preferences, Overview is functioning properly. Also, while taking a closer look at PSP X9 I see Overview does display rectangle but it is only clearly discernible as such at lower zooms, at high zooms it very much appears to be a square, while in PSP 2018 it remains obviously a rectangle throughout zooming.
Anyway...
