PSP 2018 freezes randomly
My psp 2018 freezes randomly and usually when doing selections, using the material palette or resixing... it is only for about 1 minute but it is still frustrating..
Corel suggested I do the following:
Close all of your startup programs and leave only the necessary programs. Kindly read and follow the instructions below:
1. Click Start, type msconfig in the search bar then hit Enter.
2. Under Startup tab, click the link to Task Manager and disable all non-Microsoft programs.
3. Go back again to System Configuration window and go to Under Services tab, check the "Hide all Microsoft services" checkbox then click the "Disable all" button.
4. Set the list of services in alphabetical order and then enable all Corel-related services.
5. Click OK. It will prompt you to restart your computer then click Restart.
Has anyone tried this and if so did it work.... I am not very tech savvy when it comes to doing this , so I am very wary of trying it myself.

Re: PSP 2018 freezes randomly
Let me put it this way, Buddy123, anyone from Corel who thinks I'm going to stop my anti-virus, some Intel services, etc. isn't all too smart. Disable everything but Corel? Sorry, that is camel dung.

Re: PSP 2018 freezes randomly
I get those freezes frequently as well... very annoying... but what's far more annoying are the random crashes and closing of the program.. the same issue I had with PSP X. I thought this long overdue upgrade would finally end the crashing issue, but it's still there, just as often.. PLUS the freezing... something X never did.

Re: PSP 2018 freezes randomly
I have tried both the 64bit version and 32 bit version of 2018 and they both randomly crash with the normal "an error has caused the program to stop working". All I can do is close the program and relaunch. I have gone back to PSP X9.

Re: PSP 2018 freezes randomly
Just an update - it appears to happen whenever folders are being scanned in file manager view. When i scroll through the folders I get the "an error has caused the program to stop working". Only option available is close and restart. Has happened about 20 times in a week.rpwalle wrote:I have tried both the 64bit version and 32 bit version of 2018 and they both randomly crash with the normal "an error has caused the program to stop working". Re: PSP 2018 freezes randomly
Are you using the Collections tab or the Computer tab in Manage mode in PSP? I don't use the Collections tab at all. I have never had this error when using the Computer tab. I keep my images of different categories in various named folders and sub-folders on my computer so I guess you could say I create my own collections folders, which I find easy to navigate just using the Computer tab.rpwalle wrote:Just an update - it appears to happen whenever folders are being scanned in file manager view. Re: PSP 2018 freezes randomly
Joe, interesting question. The implication is that using Collections is causing the freezing.JoeB wrote:Are you using the Collections tab or the Computer tab in Manage mode in PSP? I don't use the Collections tab at all. I have never had this error when using the Computer tab.
I use Collections almost exclusively and do not have the freezing problem. In fact, I would guess that a user may run into problems more often with Computer tab than with Collections. Using Computer, when a folder is accessed PSP creates thumbs, which takes some time. This is done with each folder accessed. When the session is ended all the thumbs are deleted and the next time PSP is started they are created/scanned all over again.
When a folder is "created" in Collections, it is scanned and the thumbs are stored just as when using Computer. However, the thumbs are retained when the session ends and do not have to be recreated the next time. Much less background activity. Another implication of this is that if you use trays, create custom trays, images (thumbs) you drag into those trays are kept between sessions if the images come from a folder that is placed in Collections but are not kept in the tray if they came from a folder that is only in Computer.
I put only folders that I use on a regular basis in Collections, not all the images I store, in order to keep the thumbs retained to a reasonable level.

Re: PSP 2018 freezes randomly
I will try it using collections rather than the computer tab and see if there is any change. Thanks for the info.

Re: PSP 2018 freezes randomly
Collections or computer tab seems to make no difference. I was just working on it for about an hour when again random crash. Same error message. An error forced this program to stop functioning. Windows says it will let me know if it finds a problem but it never does. Works fine until it doesn't.

Re: PSP 2018 freezes randomly
I'm having the same issues.
I will go and switch to psp, which has no images open and just open because I was working earlier. Come to find out it's frozen. Then I have to use the task manager to close it.
The only time I get that error message is when I'm apply a filter or something along those lines.

I don't see much help here. Continue to get random crashes. Sometimes when working on an image and sometimes when scrolling through thumbnails. Can't pinpoint exactly what causes it. Does Corel have a technical team working on bug fixes? I can't seem to locate anyone actively working it.

Re: PSP 2018 freezes randomly
Considering that this post has had over 1300 views and hardly any responses I would say that the problem is not widespread at all and therefore nobody has a solution. When an issue has affects very few people then it's usually not a bug but a system specific issue.rpwalle wrote:mushigirl78 wrote:I'm having the same issues.

Re: PSP 2018 freezes randomly
I don't have a solution and I have reported it to Corel but I too see random crashes and also "hangs" where the program does not respond and has to be closed via the task manager.

Re: PSP 2018 freezes randomly
I've had a tremendously long startup with psp 2018, but, believe it is due to my network drives that hold security camera images. There is over 20 tb of images and there is constant adding/deleting of images on those drives. Starting psp 2018 took about an hour as it tried to index all of those drives/folders/images.
I ended up disabling the "Manage" tab and the app starts up like normal. Having read through this forum, I'm wondering if I should reinstate the Manage tab and select collections instead of computer and see what happens?

Re: PSP 2018 freezes randomly
I am having the same problem. Right now I'm just using the 30 day trial, and am not having much luck. I use a Windows 8 laptop, that I'm not able to upgrade to Windows 10. Could this be my problem?
