Dropper tool oddity
In PSP 2018, the Dropper tool has a new feature : Sample and fill.
When activated, the Dropper switches immediately after sampling to the Fill tool.
Very handy when I need to select and fill different colors in selections.
But on my computer (Windows 10, 64bit, PSP 2018 Ultimate, Update 1 (second edition) installed) the fill doesn't work as expected.
It fills whith white and no other color.
If I sample a red in the image, the fill is done in white.
Do you observe the same defect on your side ?

Re: Dropper tool oddity
I do not experience that, no. Does it happen regardless of the color profile or sample size? Use all layers on or off? Regular background layer or raster layer? Color depth of the image? I can't find any combination that does it for me. Just curious if there is something I haven't tried yet.

Thank you for testing !LeviFiction wrote:I do not experience that, no. Does it happen regardless of the color profile or sample size? Use all layers on or off? I'm starting with a JPG image, single background layer.
Foreground color is set to red and Background color to blue (so, I'm sure I don't have some corruption).
I click on Dropper tool
I activate Sample and Fill (sometimes, it is already active from previous use).
RVB mode, 11x11 pixels, All layers unchecked
I click on black in the image (no selection active)
Tool changes to Sample and Fill
I click with the Fill on another area of the image and the filling is done in white !
If other users have 2018 installed, I would be interested to know if they encounter the same problem.
I'm using the French and also the English version of 2018 64 bit. But this oddity is visible on both versions.

Re: Dropper tool oddity
I also experience this bug. Initially it would have filled in black but lately it fills in brown, no matter what color I picked. This bug has been reported to the development team already.

Re: Dropper tool oddity
I'm using the latest updated PSP2018 and the fill part of the operation fills with the color I sample with the dropper sampling part of the operation. Of course, when the dropper tool changes to a fill tool after the first sample then fill tool will take on the options which were last selected when the actual fill tool was used. I don't know if anyone reporting this issue has checked to make sure that the fill operation is using the settings they desire or, in fact, if this has anything to do with the issue being reported. I just thought I'd bring it up just in case.

Re: Dropper tool oddity
The defect is gone !
I played with the settings in the regular Fill tool (reset, changing values, etc.) and suddenly the Dropper Sample and Fill worked as expected.
Thank you all for testing !

Re: Dropper tool oddity
Glad to see that playing with the settings of the Fill tool worked for you. Perhaps Cassel will also now check her Fill Tool options and, if necessary, play around with them a bit like you did, then report back as to whether or not that also fixes the issue.

Re: Dropper tool oddity
I did play around and nothing fixed it EXCEPT resetting the Fill tool to default (through the Preset button).
So, click that RESET TO DEFAULT and see if it fixes for you too.

Re: Dropper tool oddity
So far so good then. I guess the next step as time progresses is to see whether, after the Fill tool itself has been used for a period of time with different settings for different projects, the issue returns in some form or whether it was just a one off for a few users. I notice that it didn't fill with the same inappropriate color for the two of you who reported the issue.Cassel wrote:I did play around and nothing fixed it EXCEPT resetting the Fill tool to default (through the Preset button).

It definitely wasn't an apparent bug for everyone because at least three of us have reported no issue at all and there haven't been any other reports one way or another after at least a couple of hundred topic views. So I suppose it could be system specific, but it also could be something that might occur to anyone at some time given some combination of Fill tool settings from previous uses of the tool.
