Videostudio X10, problem DVD ripping

Post by Borut »

Hello,

I have Videostudio X10 ulimate, Win 7 with all updates, HP pc.

First problem: Videostudio fall down, when I make project, and I Go to Share -> Disc -> DVD (to make video from project).

But if I dont have projet in timeline, I just go to Share -> Disc -> DVD I can make DVD from projects, saved on hard disk.

Second problem: But quality of video in DVD making is worse than in case, if I make video directly (with mpeg2)

So there are same settings but when I make Video with DVD is not sam quality as in case, when I make video directly, Share -> Computer ->Mpeg2 (from same project, with same settings).

Where could be problem?

Hi Borut

And welcome to the forums.

We need more details regarding your video files.
What type are they?
How long is your project? over 70 minutes will reduce quality.

Right click an original clip on the timeline and choose properties, if you wish copy the panel to your clipboard and paste to an image editor to create a Jpeg, attach to your post.

Can you do the same for the MPEG2 that you created using (from same as Project, with same settings) Please compare the two properties to make sure they are the same?

If you play this MPEG2 video file is the quality ok? Play using one of your media players not VS.

Preference options……..

Please go to Preferences (F6)-Edit Tab set Resample Quality to Best, that could improve render quality.
Again render the project to MPEG2 from Share – Same as Project Settings or Same as first Clip.
To burn the disc……….
With the timeline empty, do Share Disc – DVD
Here you can add a video file or VSP project file, insert the MPEG2 video file.

On the final page choose to create a Disc Image ISO, that will create an iso file on your computer, a copy of the disc.
You can play the iso using VLC Media Player to check quality
I ok use Tools - Burn from Disc Image(iso) to burn the file to disc.

Hi Lata,

I solved my first probem, I uninstal and install X10 again and it works. It dont crash anymore.

But problem with rendering is still here.

My video in project is just testing video, one track, it is avi file, maybe 10 seconds.

When I go to Share- M-peg2 and make mpg video it is good quality.

you can check here:
http://www.glasba.info/make_mpeg.mpg

But when I go to Share- DVD- DVD, and I make with same settings from same project, this video is worse quality. (I take this video from documents/dmf_temp/CvtedTitle)
http://www.glasba.info/make_dvd.mpg

Look at the horizontal lines

Hi
Your Make_Mpeg video is using Progressive aka Frame Based whereas the DVD version is using Interlaced as Lower Field.

The progressive is better quality for still images.
Change your project properties to use the properties of the make_mpeg2 video using :-
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: 7500 kbps
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

Then when you do Share Disc DVD the conversion / render settings will use the same.

Otherwise from Share Disc DVD the Project Settings can be adjusted to Frame Based.

Seems like Videostudio make DVD video with lowerfiled, even if I define framebased. Is it some other solution for this problem?

Hi

Your settings must be wrong, Video Studio will burn DVD using Frame based video

Try this.

If you first render your project to a mpeg2 video file using frame based
Start a new project to empty the timelines
Share Disc DVD, on the first window top left choose to "add video files", selecting the Mpeg2 video created above.

The disc will be created without any further conversions, the Frame Based video will be burnt to disc.
The process will start with convert Menu, if you see convert title then the project is being rendered, not what we need.

I would advise that you create a (disc Image) Iso file rather than burning a disc, that will save on making coasters.
The iso can be played using VLC Media Player to check quality
We can unzip the iso to view the VideoTS folder, rename the Vob to Mpg, import to the timeline to check properties. It should show Frame Based?

Thank you for advice.

I tried this before, and it works!

But problem is - that I need to make DVD directly from many different projects. It takes me hours, if I make first .mpg-s and than DVD from same .mpg-s. I make every DVDs with many project on it, and use menu for navigation offcourse.

I use Videostudio many years, and I worked until now with Pro X3. It was very good job, I but I needed to buy newer version because of Win10 compatibility.

Now is problem with DVD making - as you understand corectly.

Maybe can I copy some *.ini files from X3 to X10 ? This is very huge problem for me, because I make many DVD-s, and it really should works automaticly .

I tried also with iso, but there is same situation.

Hi
Ok two settings to check….
Make sure your Settings - Project Properties use DVD with frame based, sample settings below.

MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-PAL), 4:3 or 16:9
Video data rate: 8000 kbps
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

When you do Share Disc DVD those properties should be used

Choose the Options cogwheel (lower Left) , Project Settings.
View the details in the top panel, to change these details choose “Change MPEG Settings”
DVD Slide show will use Frame Based
Otherwise Customise to set same as above settings.

Hi

What are the properties of the video you added to the burner timelines, (testnote video) Click the "i" info button

If they are DVD Mpeg2 compliant then they will not be converted irrespective of the frame type.
The video should use Frame Base.

From the burner module, options cogwheel, deselect Do Not Convert compliant video. that will force the burner module to convert the video using those settings.

You are best In making sure the video you use in the burner is using the correct properties, ie frame based and play before using to check quality.
Share - Mpeg2 using MPEG-2 (720 x 576, 4:3, 25p, 8Mbps) will render a suitable video file.

Having said that my first attempt at testing the process again did create an interlaced video, not sure what i did wrong? second try was ok and used Frame Based.
