Update Problem. Able to uninstall?
Haven't used VS in a while and when I started Live Screen Capture it said an update was available. I allowed the update.
However . . .
During the install I got a message about "C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X10\VSSCap.exe". Not being able to access it, or something. I chose the "ignore" option. The rest of the install proceeded smoothly.
I then started Live Screen Capture and I get the error message;
"C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X10\VSSCap.exe
Windows cannot access the specified deice, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item."
I checked, the VSSCap.exe file is where it's supposed to be. Maybe it was overwritten with a new version?
Anyway, is there a way I can uninstall the update?
TIA advance for any input, suggestions!

This sounds like a lack of Administrative privilege to install programs. Are you logged in the pc with an account that has no administration privileges? PC accounts need to have appropriate permissions to install programs; you may need to change the permissions on your pc login account.

Thanks for the reply. My account does have Administrator privileges, though.
Any other ideas?

Re: Update Problem. Able to uninstall?
I think the only option is to uninstall the whole ScreenCap program and reinstall it. If you go to Control Panel > Programs and Features, you will see that 'Corel ScreenCap' appears as a separate program that can be uninstalled like any other.

Ummm . . . .
Not on my windows 7 home sp1 machine. There are references there are for some Corel primary apps, like video studio (3 versions), and some secondary apps like My DVD and sonicfire. Also VS plug-ins like NewBlue, Boris and Graffiti. Screen capture is conspicuous in its absence. And if it was there, and could be uninstalled, how would you get it back? There's no separate installation file - it came as part of the VS package. Screen Capture for me is the most used secondary app in the VS suite. A complete VS uninstall/cleanup/re-install would be the only way I could recover this situation on the machine I have.

Re: Update Problem. Able to uninstall?
Hi
I believe that screen capture program was supplied with PSP X9 as a stand alone program.
VS installs a screen capture when installing vs, it does not list in P and F
The only way I can think of is to re-install video studio.
I wonder if the problem occurred if installing the SP whilst screen capture was running, usually we get a message to close the program, hmmmm

Re: Update Problem. Able to uninstall?
You are probably right, Trevor. Looking at the Control Panel entry, I see the date was clearly associated with X9. See attached image. Though I hadn't been aware that was a one-off, and that it had not continued in X10 or even existed separately in earlier versions...
Mind you, I am surprised that since I have installed X10 since then, no 'newer' version of ScreenCap was installed. And I wonder if that P&F version is still the only version I have installed. Not sure how to tell if the version number of the X10 version is later than the 1.0.0 shown as installed in my image.

Re: Update Problem. Able to uninstall?
Hi Trevor/Ken
Following the links given under Properties for the two Screen Capture Icons for X10 and X9, my system shows VSSCAP.exe for X10 as 886KB and for VSSCAP.exe for X9 as 661KB.
So conclusion is that there are two distinct versions, although both UIs look identical as far as I can tell.
My screen capture for both X10 and X9 open up as apparently stand alone (double clicking the relevant icon), whereas my X6 version looks similar with a seperate icon, double clicking it opens up VS X6 proper initially then the screen capture UI appears. When closing the Screen Capture program (X6) UI the VS X6 UI again re-appears and remains open until closed seperately.

Re: Update Problem. Able to uninstall?
I've never heard of a separate program called Corel Screencap. But for X8 and X9 (maybe earlier versions also, but these are the only superseded ones I have installed), the packages installed with and as part the VS suite are called Corel screencap, as the attached screenshot of the desktop icons indicates.
The file properties of that icon for X9 actually obscure the screencap icon for the X8 version.
I did note that with X10, a screen capture item was installed, and the icon name has changed to Live screen capture, but when active it present the same UI "always on top" as the screen cap items of prior VS versions. As to version number change, hard to tell. no way to check that.

Re: Update Problem. Able to uninstall?
Hi David
If you right click the Live Screen Capture Icon (for X10) or the Corel ScreenCap X9 Icon and choose Properties the locations and exe file names are shown.
If you follow the locations using Windows (File) Explorer you can access the VSSCAP.exe file sizes. X10 is considerably larger than X9 - different programs?
For interest, on my system the Screen Capture element of any/all my versions of VS do not show as seperate entries under Settings>Apps>Apps & Features, so I conclude to uninstall/re-install will require the uninstallation of the full VS version and then re-install.

Re: Update Problem. Able to uninstall?
Hi Ken / Guys
I was referring to a screen capture that was provided with PSP, Paint Shop Pro X9
That program is a seperate file, installed by itself, a stand alone program, it shows as a sepertae program in Program and Features.
For video studio the screen capture is part of the vs installation, a plugin if that's the correct description, does not show in Programs and Features.
I am not at home at the moment so cannot check my files, but 100% sure
