Software: Paintshop Pro 2018 ver 20.2.0.1 x64
I’m having a minor problem with the crop tool.
When in the edit workspace and the crop tool active, opening an image (double click on the thumbnail in the organizer) causes the image to open smaller that the window would allow, the image does not “fit to window”, when it opens. In my case, the images open at a zoom level of 16%, and I have to select the “fit to window” icon on the tool bar to maximize the image size.
My previous version (PaintShop Pro X8) did not behave this way, the images always “fit to window” when they were opened.
I’m hoping that I have just missed some setting someplace, but I have compared the settings between X8 and 2018 and can’t seem to find it.
Could someone please help?
Thanks

Actually, I think you'll find that the window and image are fitting. What's happening is that you are getting scrollbars because activating the crop tool automatically adds some grey space around the image, which you'll see if you scroll. It's that grey space that's outside of the window. It's supposed to be a feature that seems to have resulted by using the rotation handle, which now rotates the image instead of the crop rectangle. It's a PITA which I hope they will remove shortly with a patch and return the tool to its previous operation.

Re: PaintShop Pro 2018 Crop Tool Problem
Thanks JoeB for the reply.
I did a little experimenting and I see what you are talking about.
PSP2018 picks a zoom level such that the image will rotate completely within the window, and prevent the need to pan around to see the image.
I fully agree that it is a real PITA! I would be a lot happier if this tool it worked the way it did in PSP X8. I don't know who's bright idea it was but the person that came up with the idea should have to use the feature.
Thanks again for the reply

Re: PaintShop Pro 2018 Crop Tool Problem
BTW. Congratulations rljk on the way you phrased your question.
You stated succinctly your program version, which work space mode, the tool, how you were opening your image and the problem as well as pointing out that you did not get the problem with a previous version. You also had the info filled out in your profile to indicate your system details.
Excellent for your first post. So many others give half the details and the rest have to be extracted from them in subsequent questions, like pulling teeth such that you can be on the second page before they finally give up the bit of information that helps provide a solution if possible.

Re: PaintShop Pro 2018 Crop Tool Problem
I too am not all that thrilled with this change. I am used to selecting the area with the crop tool and simply double clicking inside the cropped space and the image is now occupied via the window. Instead now as you say, the image is surrounded by gray space, then I have to go to the PAN tool - go back to image and use the wheel mouse to reset the image full window. I know that probably good intentions where at hand, but it is really an annoyance to me. However, it would be good if there were a choice that you could make at the beginning as to if you want to continue using the crop like this or like the old way. then it would satisfy both types of users.

Re: PaintShop Pro 2018 Crop Tool Problem
2018 Ultimate to me has NOT been worth the upgrade experience simply because of known issues that are NOT being corrected in a reasonable time period. X9 ultimate work nearly flawlessly and I am trying to make sense of why not return 2018 for a full refund and just reload my copy X9 Ultimate.
The crop tool issue is outright aggravating with the horrible background mask that is nearly uncontrollable especially when zooming and the added slide bars that appear as soon as you activate the tool. If any of these changes for 2018 were intended then at least allow a preference to load the crop tool in a classic fashion by default as with the crop tool in previous version. Not having a tool load option by default is not going to work out and as your level 2 development team has announce they are supposed to be working on a correction but its been over two months and noting has been forthcoming.
Your advertisement says that the program load time is 50% faster but when loading a file picture (any file picture) from any drive or source on my computer using a phone stop watch it takes a full 40 plus seconds to fully load. That is far longer then X9 use to take and is even longer then loading up AutoCAD LT from a stored drawing and Adobe Photoshop loading any file image or drawing on my much slower work computer. In fact, PSP 2018 Ultimate is the longest loading version I have ever used over the many years including JASIC years of using Pain Shop Pro products. My computer is a high-end gaming and graphics laptop Alienware R4 Intel 7820HK Invidia GTX 1080 video engine 32GB memory and two 1TB each SSD drives. My hardware is fully capable to run programs such as Corel PSP 2018 smoothly and without compromise. All I am asking for of Support is the known issue with the crop tool be quickly resolve and the start time situation be resolve. If for whatever reason this is not going to happen in a reasonable amount of time then please just say so. I will move on to sending Corel back the defective software and go back using the proven reliable PSP X9 ultimate package. I always ordered software in a box set when available for this very reason of recourse when needed. Please, will someone at Corel make this right. Ticket (4829037)

Re: PaintShop Pro 2018 Crop Tool Problem
OK I and the rest of us who were told there would a Crop Toll corrective patch as level II development was looking into a fix and issue an patch. Not we are being totally ignored and no fix issued or even an update of when we could expect a correction.. Corel continues to sell the program with this flaw.
