Re: recent upate
You can't just get them back. First, if you followed the instructions on the Corel update page then I assume that you at least saved your workspace (assuming it had been customized). If so, reloading that workspace will return the customized workspace.wombat100 wrote:I have just done the recent update for PSP 18 Ultimate and I have lost all of my settings that I created, how can I get my settings back ?
All other settings (those in Preferences, File Locations, etc.) were, for most people, lost and restored to default so will have to be done over again. I seem to recall one person saying all of their settings were kept in place but that seems to be an anomaly to me because most major updates I can recall over the years required re-doing the preferences (perhaps that person was referring to the save workspace). As a result, LeviFiction wrote a script that will also save most of your settings (except File Locations as I recall, which are where most of my changes occur) but don't think it's been tested fur use with 2018 although it could work for that version. I'm providing that info for future reference because it's obviously too late for your present situation.

Re: recent upate
If you've always been satisfied with the tools that PSP has to offer then I'm not sure that, just because you have to reset your preferences, this means that Photoshop offers better tools than they did when you preferred PSP's tools. And of course if you can get a standalone PS it's way more expensive than PSP, and if you "rent" it with their new subscription service then it becomes more expensive before even a year of use and continues to increase the expense thereafter. Just saying....wombat100 wrote:Hi JoeB,

Re: recent upate
Remember the old saying "better the devil you know"!!!
I swapped from PSP to Photoline for my main editor. It's not an easy change. If you think resetting preference is a pain think about the learning curve of jumping to PS.
Making a jump from one editor to another needs to be carefully considered. While I did I wouldn't recommend it for those with limited time and especially those using only limited tools and features of PSP.

Re: recent upate
Good decision. I only use PSP but have had Photoshop for years - the last version being PS CS6 installed but don't use it for anything anymore. Learning curve is bad enough. Lack of customization (and lack of PSP scripts also) would have been a deal breaker even if the learning curve wasn't so pathetic. Most of all of those issues is because it comes from Apple days and their layouts which haven't given users lots of user defined options (similar to how iPhones don't have as many customizations available compared to Android OS phones today).wombat100 wrote:...I will keep PSP while I try out PhotoShop

Re: recent upate
I like PSP for editing and printing my photos. I also use PSP as the front end to my scanner (32-bit) as well as print screen captures (keyboard Print Screen, Paste as New Image). I am very unhappy with the Crop Tool changes in PSP 2018, but the thought of change photo editors has never crossed my mind. I still have PSP X8, PSP X9, and PSP 2018 installed on my main computer and thy all seem to work well together. Currently my go to photo editor is PSP X9 and unless Corel makes some changes to PSP 2018 I do not see that changing. wombat100, I hope you find a photo / graphic editor to your liking. Years ago I went on an extensive search for a better photo editor to fit my lifestyle. I tried almost all the available Window based photo editors including Photo Shop CS5 and in the end I found that I still liked PSP best.

Re: recent upate
not sure what has happened here but I now have all of my settings back and the way I prefer PSP to open, so I thought to myself what will happen if I go to Help/Check for updates and guess what it tells me that an important update is available, so it looks like I do not have the update, how can I save my present settings so that I can update ?
it does not give me the save settings message, I have not at this stage clicked on the upgrade.

Re: recent upate
In PSP click on Help>About.... The screen that opens will give you the version number of your PSP. If that number is 20.2.0.1 then you have the latest update and are getting a false prompt from PSP about needing the update - which is an issue others have reported. If your version number is different from that then you need the update. So what version are you presently showing?

Re: recent upate
Read my reply to the first post you posted when you started this thread. The only thing you can save for certain is any workspace customization (added or rearranged tools, menu items, etc.) but not stuff you set in File>Preferences. To save your existing workspace configuration you first have to save the workspace, and then make a copy of that workspace file and put it somewhere safe (like another folder you make yourself or on your Desktop). Then, after installing the update (which you can get from Corel's update page) you place that file back in its workspace folder and then load that workspace from Preferences>Workspaces.wombat100 wrote:Ver 20.1.0.15 x64 so it looks like I do need a update, I did it last week and lost all my settings not sure how I got back to this version, how can I do the update and keep my settings?
Actually re-doing Preferences doesn't take much time at all. For me the most time consuming is Plugins because they can be located in various places, depending on how they install.

Re: recent upate
Thanks JoeB,
I did the save workspace then checked for updates in PSP 2018 and get the message important update, click continue, then I get this error F:/Temp/Corel PaintShop Pro 2018/20.1.0.0/setup.exe
I then have to use CTRL ALT DEL to close PSP 2018
update failed.

Re: recent upate
Go back to basics. Uninstall 2018. Then use the cleanup tool found here:
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=52337
This should take you back to a clean environment where any damage caused by the bad Update 1 is removed.
Now redownload the latest version of PSP and install that following the recommended settings (32 and 64 bit versions even if you think you do not need the 32 bit version )
Then look at the version number (Help > About)and if it still says 20.2 etc then you need proceed no further. Your program should hopefully work within the current limitations that others experience with the program.
If it says 20.0.0.132 then you now need to download the newest Update 1 (delete any older versions you may have of Update 1 so you do not get confused).
Close PSP 2018 if it is open and then run the Update 1.
That should be it.
