HELP: PSP 2018 Ultimate Null foreground/background & plugins

Post by dolphincrazy1 »

Hi there

I wonder if someone can help me please! :(

I have just purchased Paintshop Pro 2018 Ultimate & I am having trouble with a few things e.g. plugins to show up & how to null a foreground/background etc.

I used to use PSP9 so I know how to null a foreground/background & how to install plugins etc as I have done this in PSP9 which I have been using for a few years now.

I am using Windows 7 Professional (64 bit).

I have been advised to join this forum for help/support
Does anyone know of any other groups/forums for me to be able to join & get help too?

I have spent a lot of money £99 to buy Paintshop Pro 2018 Ultimate & I can not do the basic things on it (null the foreground/background)!

Thanks & I hope someone can help me please!

Julie, I hope someone can help you with nulling the foreground/background, because I do not know where you would set that in the first place.

Did you install the 32-bit version of 2081? Because the 64-bit will only show Perfectly Clear and any 64-bit plugins you have.
All the old ones only work in 32-bit.

As you are using Windows 7, have you excluded PSP 2018 from Windows DEP?

Control Panel>System>System Protection> Advanced>Settings.
Select the Data Execution Prevention tab.
Click on Add + navigate to the Program files (x86), then add the the PSP version exe file.
Apply.

Hi Zantara

Thanks for your reply!

I installed both 32 bit & 64 bit of PSP 2018 Ultimate which was recommended when installing.
I have both on my task bar icons.

Oh wow when I opened my 32 bit (as only been trying 64 bit) my plugins are all showing up now on my 32 bit. :D

Sorry what does excluded PSP 2018 from Windows DEP do?
Do I still need to do it as my plugins show up in 32 bit?

Now I just need to find out how to null a foreground/background so only either or shows on my material palette.
In PSP9 it has the circle with a line going through it, I click that & it turns off my background so only my foreground shows, please see attachment below.

Thank you so much!

turning off the background/foreground colors is exactly the same. The button just looks different, now it's a "transparency grid" instead of a circle with a line. But it's the exact same third button under the swatch.

DEP is a protection measure by Windows to prevent issues with programs that may cause data overruns which is what some malicious programs use to force Windows to run bad code without your permission. Some plugins were not designed well and can be negatively effected by this protection. So if you experience a lot of plugins crashing you may want to look into this. But it's not necessary if everything works fine for you.

Corel seems to have a habit of changing the icons for actions that are the same actions as in previous versions (the one you mention, now also the hamburger dropdown for some Text tool options, etc.) without letting users know. I think that those changes should show up in their What's New stuff about new program versions and also be noted in the user manual/help guides to help users of previous versions.

This is what it looks like, Julie. Just realised that in PSP X9 the same icon was introduced and maybe in X8 as well.
It has just become such an automatic click, that I never noticed a different icon

Great thanks Zantara!

Can you see on your screenshot in the foreground the icon is not there, this is what I am getting on both of my foreground & background?

Any idea why that is?
Thanks so much!

The transparency button can only be turned on on either the Foreground OR the Background , not both at once.
Using Zantara's image to turn the foreground off, you would first click the Background Transparency button to turn transparency off, Then the button will appear on the Foreground box.

Are you saying that you don't have the icon on either of them - i.e., that you don't have an icon on either the foreground or background under any circumstances?

I've found out it's only on certain tools that allows you to null the foreground & background.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Julie, I just started PSP X7 up. Same thing applies. Does make sense, I suppose as you wouldn't make both foreground and background transparent at the same time, so an icon is not needed.
