hello i w onder if i can combine videos and pictures.i mean to use a static picture together with video in VSX10

Yes. You simply place the picture in the timeline in the place you want it to appear. It can be before, after or between video clips. You can right click the photo and set its duration, or simply highlight it and drag out the yellow bar at the right end of the photo till it is as long as you wish. And if you just want the photo to overlay video, then place the photo in an overlay track where you want it to appear.

no i mean merge video and picture.the picture to be appeared like a part of background.how can i say..the video appears above the picture.overlay the picture.To be used picture like canvas.i want to create a text using text effects ''on'' a picture.not in the classic black window display of VS...I hope understnd what i mean....i attach a file

Yes - what you want to do is called "Picture-in-Picture" (PiP) altho both items may / can be a video

put the video in the top video timeline and your picture in the overlay track under it and change it's size to your requirements

ok i w ill try,but should i drag the picture first?i want my static picture to be my background and ''write'' on it

what do you want to 'drag' the picture for

just try what my picture shows

I would suggest you put the picture in the top timeline and the video in the first overlay line. Use the transparency slide to vary the intensity of the video and the square to locate the video.
"Picture in picture" will put a frame into the picture which you may not want.

I use this method to produce "ghost" effects.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.
