HTML - Cannot add video to overlay track

Post by PerceptualRobots »

I have looked in the manual and searched. The corel knowledge base link gives an error.

I am working in a HTML5 file in VS10.5.0.60 64bit.

When I drag a video to an overlay track nothing happens, When I right-click on a video and select "Insert to", all the overlay tracks are greyed out. I have tried my own mp4 files and mp4 and wmv from samples.

I can add images to the overlay track.

Any idea what am I doing wrong? Any help appreciated.

Hi PerceptualRobots
And welcome to the forums
You are not doing anything wrong....

HTML projects can only use the top track for our video, but we can add audio and text clips.

If you need a more complicated video setup, maybe using Instant Projects you should create that as normal using the standard projects.
Adding the project file VSP to the library will allow us to add that to the top track of the HTML effectively nesting the projects.
Otherwise render the project to a video file to use in HTML.

Thanks for your response.

I'm very new to VideoStudio. I had chosen HTML5 because I had wanted link hotspots at the end to link to my crowdfunding page.

But the video is going to be on youtube, and subsequent research indicates that those hotspots won't work on youtube. Is that correct?

If not, is there a way to convert my VSH file to VSP? I have done a lot of work on it so I don't want to recreate a VSP from scratch.

If I can't convert I guess I can create some short video overlay clips in VSP, render them to mp4 and then include them to the VSH?

Hi Rupert

As far as I know we cannot convert the HTML to a normal project.
You could render the HTML to a video file, then add that file to a normal project, complete the editing, then import back to a new HTML to add the links.
I have only used the HTML for testing and not uploaded to YT so don’t know if the links work, but I would have thought they would. Otherwise what’s the point when YT is probably the most used media.
I guess it will work on our own web site but not all have such a thing.

Out of interest I will give the YT links a test.

Well you learn something every day.

Go to Share, there is an option to save the HTML project to Video Studio Project
That will save the project with a VSP extension.

Thanks, hadn't spotted that.

The links issue as I understand it is that if you share to mp4 you lose the links. And share to html5 creates a bunch of files which can't be uploaded to youtube. Is that correct?

Hi

That does seem to be correct, I have tried uploading HTML files to YT with no success.
A google seemed to indicate uploading a Zip file of the HTML folder, I did not find a way to do that.
Seems HTML is destined for a web site, however we can open directly in our web browsers.
I wonder if it will open via Google Drive?
