Deleting VS 8 and 9
Hi all. I have VS 8, VS 9 and VS 10 on my PC. Does anyone know of a reason I should keep 8 and 9. I want to delete them because it seems to be a waste of space. But before I do, I thought I would check and see if anyone else could think of a good reason to keep them. As far as I see VS 10 does everything 8 and 9 does and more. Did I miss anything? Thanks

Re: Deleting VS 8 and 9
do you mean X8 and X9 the 'X' is important please always quote it mean the roman 10 and makes your programs 18 and 19
if you are sure you know all you need to know about using X10 then uninstall your previous programs
but you may regret it if you find something you can't do in X10 and cannot go back and check how you did it in a previous versions
the programs are not connected and may be uninstalled individually without upsetting other programs

Well I guess that's what I'm asking. Does anyone know if I will find something I can't do If I delete 18 or 19 and just have X10?BJC wrote:do you mean X8 and X9 the 'X' is important please always quote it mean the roman 10 and makes your programs 18 and 19

Re: Deleting VS 8 and 9
Things which can change from version to version can be subtle and not readily obvious. Like, the objects, video backgrounds and the like. I got burnt a few years ago when a project I re-opened under a later version did not play as I remembered it, and the cause was changes in these areas. And not only do these things change over versions, but if the earlier version is uninstalled, there's no going back if the item you used or wanted isn't in the newer version.
So as a precaution now, I save the samples sub-folder of the installed VS application under the version name in a separate location on the PC. That's saved my vsp bacon several times.

Hi sh9168
If you have any projects to complete that have been started using X8 or X9 then any samples used in the project may not exist in X10, pretty rare though.
As a precaution you should create a Smart Package of your projects, that saves copies of “all” files used in the project.
Then proceed to uninstall the older versions.
