Saving .pspimage as .tiff results in .jp2
I wish to save a pspimage file as a TIFF. When I select TIFF in the "Save As" function, the resulting file is a jp2. Why does this happen, and what does it mean? I've been scouring the web to find out, since I wish to upload the image as a TIFF file since the vendor will not accept jp2 files (to print a custom acoustic panel). Thanks.

I see from your previous posts that you have PSP X7, PSP X8, PSP X9. This is something you should mention at the start of each of your original first posts OR --------------------------->

Does this problem occur in all of your versions of PSP?
Is your image a multilayer of merged image?
Try this
New document say 500 x 500 pixels. Use layer palette to duplicate that twice so you have 3 layers.
Save As > Save As type select TIf and complete the save. Does that work correctly?
Load a jpg image and then save that as a tif . Does that work.
change your profile to show what you are using.

Re: Saving .pspimage as .tiff results in .jp2
Ah, hadn't given any thought to my profile. I just updated it as you suggested. I'm now using PSP 2018. Since my post, I spent more time learning the HDR Exposure Merge process in PSP 2018. I discovered the process of how to save as a tif through trial and error. Heaven forbid I would study the Help file. It details the process, which at the end describes the Step 3: Fine-Tune window. I found that the very last step, which is "Save and Close," offers the option of saving as a tif file, and actually does save it as a tif file. I made notes during my trial-and-error process:

But it remains a curiosity to me, as a non-professional user of PSP, that when a .pspimage file is open in PSP and one selects TIF in the "Save As" function, the result is a .jp2 file. I suspect that will confuse a lot of people. I've researched jp2 and still don't understand its purpose.
Thanks, Paul, for your help.
ADDENDUM: I just discovered in PSP that after editing a .tif file, I can't even save it as a .tif file. Always comes out as a .jp2. Obviously I have some learning to do, or something is amiss in my PSP program. It's frustrating. I will have to use another program to resize/edit that tif file. That doesn't seem right.

8. Select TIF

Have you by any chance updated PSP 2018 with SP1? That is causing many users a variety of problems, and this might be yet another one...

Ken ... yes, I recently installed SP1. Maybe the .jp2 issue can be added to problems with the update?

Have you installed the newest version of the update? They had removed it and uploaded a new patch to fix the issues of their first patch.

Hoo boy. Thanks for the heads-up, Levi. Wouldn't have known this if you hadn't posted about it. There's no "Check for updates" in the PSP Help drop-down like other programs. That would be a nice addition to PSP. Anyway, I've downloaded Update1 and am installing it now. I'll come back and edit this post with an update after the installation is complete and I see if my issue still exists.

While you're at it could you also let us know if, with the new update, the Layers palette tools show icons or text? At least a couple of us have found that the icons there are gone and replaced with text only. And the big problem with that is that most of that text is off the screen and can only be viewed by dragging the layers palette waaayy large in width!rkeesecker wrote:Hoo boy. Ooookay. Instead of editing my last post, here's a new one because of Joe's question. First, the new update resolved my jp2 issues.JoeB wrote:While you're at it could you also let us know if, with the new update, the Layers palette tools show icons or text? 1. You can now save a pspimage file as a tif. It no longer defaults to a jp2 without ability to change that.
2. You can also now edit a tif and save it as a tif. Golly, that's the ginchiest.
Also, my Layers palette shows icons and no text after installing Update1.
All this aside, I'm a big fan of what Corel has done with their products the last few years, the great value that they are, and I am especially impressed with how much they have improved customer support. You may recall that several years ago, their support was ... how do I say ... fubar? Complete turnaround. Kudos to Corel.
